What in the world is wrong with people

Night before last, some moron stole my phone and lighter out of my coat in the break room at work. As annoying as it is, they really won't benefit from it. The 3 year old, banged up phone was a Tracphone with just 5 minutes left on it. And as I just reported it as stolen and switched my phone number to a new one, they can't even use it, in fact if they try to reactivate it, Tracphone will notify the local police that it was reported as stolen and give them whatever info they give tracphone. What was even more hurtful to me was the lighter, a regular bic lighter but the slip case it was in was the first gift my husband gave me over 20 years ago and my name is monogrammed on it. This was more of a personal insult, and to me it is irreplaceable. What is wrong with the world that someone feels it's okay to steal from a coworker? Why would anyone steal from the people they have to face day after day? I am not usually vindictive but I have to hope whoever did this is stupid enough to try to reactivate the phone and gets caught, maybe then I can get the lighter case back.

I know someone who stole a roommate's short pants. They said she is "ill" like she didn't do it for money she just did it. so the person that stole your items might be like that. It might have happened to other people too. I sure hope you get your items back, especially the lighter. I'm just hoping now that there is no one like that in hubby's workplace. He was a scapegoat before, nothing stolen just something else that people did and pointed at him. He almost got fired. I hope that no "ill" person or a real thief stole something and made him the scape goat again. This can happen to anybody too.

I am sorry to hear that you had this happen. I had something similar happen to me when I let a young girl stay in my home. She stole enough of my things to fit in two large garbage bags. My mom turquoise that she had given me and several other irreplaceable objects and expensive NEW clothes. When I finally was able to track her down she told me the items were in her grandmother's garage. This is how much she wanted the items-storing them in someone elses garage. I think they just steal for the thrill of it. Or because they are shiny. The last sentence was meant to be funny but it is alittle tragic too.

I always said if I was going to steal something, it would have to be enough to last me a lifetime. So, basically, I'm no thief. I agree, I just can't understand why someone would do something like that. And the odds are if they use that lighter while at work, someone will catch a glimpse of it, and it might be someone who knows you. I hope someway, somehow you end up getting your lighter slip case back. Good luck to you!

I can't help but laugh about the phone, especially thinking about them trying to activate it and getting into trouble over an old tracphone and a lighter case.. It does although, cause you trouble with having to get another phone and as you said, you can't replace the lighter case.. I do hope they get caught.. I would never take something that didn't belong to me, but if I did, I think that I could do better than that.. I hope they catch them.. It is awful that someone would steal from a coworker, someone they have to face everyday..

That's really cold for some one to do that. I really hate when somthing of mine gets taking. My phone got stolen once and I didn't bother since it only had 17 dollars on it and I was needing a new one. About a week later someone turns up with the phone an demands I put more money on it. I called the police and got my phone back. It's really amazing how people act these days.

I don't understand why people have to steal such small, simple things. My mother packs her lunch and takes her lunch to work every afternoon when she leaves. Well, she had her cooler in her locker and someone went by her locker on one of their breaks and stole her lunch and her container out of it and just walked off with it. The container wasn't anything special. It did cost quite a bit though as it was one of those nice ones that seal well and can be heated and what not. So they saved a few dollars by stealing her lunch and her container. What did they gain by doing that? And what did those people gain by stealing your lighter and a phone? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Keep your eyes open for someone to show up with a new lighter case. I have learned in the past that they usually want to brag about their new thing and bingo that is when they get caught. I used to have an employee that I had to work with that stole from me only thing was that she got caught cause another employee saw her and then told the Boss. I hope you get your case back as your right that means more than anything. Good luck and happy my lotting.
