How do think of "Tit for Tat"?

I was told currently when we are facing the economic crisis, some American people miss the expresident Roosevelt, who successfully led to combat the same situation. It reminds me of a story about him. When he was elected the president, his exboss, who had ill treated Roosevelt, went to him for help as a last resort after being turned down from others, He was rendered the loan, which was urgently needed to keep his farm afloat. Roosevelt's wife was surprised, but was moved after hearing,"If I did the same way, I would be as bad as he." (roughly the meaning) It is really hard for me if I were in such a case. How would you do?

I would probably do the same. I treat people the way I want to be even if I have been wronged. I may not bumble around them smiling like a dummy but if they come to me for legitimate help..I would do it. I am not a spiteful person so it would be hard for me not to help. I would hope it would make them a better person by setting an example.

I don't think this is such a good plan. If someone does something to you, you so something back and so on. As Gandhi said, "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind". This is not to say that I have never engaged in what I was taught to call "getting a little back" when someone was mean to me. But in these cases, I was a kid and nothing actually serious happened. Once, I ran over someone's foot but that was about as horrible as it got. I blamed my spasms and people believed me.

I would do the same as Roosevelt. I treat others how I want to be treated even if they have treated me badly in the past. When all is said and done we are going to be judged on our actions not the actions of others. Sometimes it is harder to be the bigger person. My father always told me the person you see when you look in the mirror, is yourself. I want to be proud of that person.
