Like a Marshmallow In The Microwave

Ok so why does life seem to be so much like a marshmallow in the microwave, its like things get good and you start to inflate, you get larger, ego takes hold and every single time in the end you start to crisp and then flatten out....good for smores not for life..is there any avoiding this or a good cope?
