not all spywares are safe?

I'm sure one of you has experienced this. I once install a search engine tool bar from a site which made me angry a lot! Do you want me to name it? It gave my pc dozens of spyware and windows are uncontrollably popping whenever I open the internet. I've downloaded almost 9 different free anti-spyware but none of them worked and the worst was my virtual memory went too low even though I already uninstall them all.I finally decided to reformat my computer. A last option was made when I saw maxxstore.synthasite.com which recommends better softwares. I saw some anti spyware softwares. I tried one of their free trial downloads and to my surprise, it worked!
