Today when my sister asked me about some dish, I could hardly remember the day I ate it! But I could very well remember that I had it very recently! Then, I got down to thinking seriously, I really had to think deep to remember the menu I had eaten day before yesterday!
Could you remember your daily course of food you eat over a few days?

I think the fact that you made it from scratch makes you remember it!

Yup, I guess so, if it was a few days ago, especially if I had to cook. We do our grocery shopping weekly, so I would buy whatever food I have planned to cook; so that makes it easier to remember. However, if we're having our meals outside, then I would have to think harder.

Hey mimpi! I can hardly remember what I did the day before
sometimes let alone what I might have eaten! So, no I don't
usually remember what I had to eat a few days ago! I would
have to think pretty hard to remember! It would have had
to be something really good for me to remember! I can usually
remember what I have on the weekends because that's when I
usually do my cooking. But, during the week I will eat stuff
that is leftover from the weekend or sandwiches or something
quick to make because my boyfriend gets home very late from
work and eats at his job.

To quite an extent yes. The reason being that for lunch we get catered too food which is a sort of fixed menu for different days of the week. While i do know that i had stuffed parthas for lunch ,i would not so much remember what i had for dinner about 3 nights back. I know it was soem vegetarian dish with dal and parathas again,
Now i wonder what it was ?

Now come to think of it i do not remember the clothes that i wore on Monday ? Would you ?.
There is a mental exercise suggested by some which involves trying to recall the day backwards before one goes to sleep. One of the things it's supposed to do is improve your memory. I should try it out.

I think the things which we do daily and naturally like waking up in the morning we do not remember because we don't need to! But the food for a special occasion and the dress we were on special days we tend to remember. Anything different gets registered! We human have a strange memory tuning. The things which we require to remember we do and things we don't we do not. But then, this is on more material perspective.

Hi mimpi,
To tell you the truth, now a days I have just lost appetite for everything, I feel so restless due to this war atmosphere here. Rockets are falling all around here, and forget about Monday, if you will ask me what I ate in the morning, I don't think I will be able to answer you correctly. I think this new world has so much stress and depression that loss of memory is becoming common, or may be we don't have those real things to eat what our grandmothers and great grand mothers ate.....I wonder if eating almonds early in the morning will help........

Hehehe that happens to me too. Our meals are just mostly forgotten unless we have it on some kind of special diet or schedule. But then again, there are those times that a type of food is associated with a special memory that lets us not to forget about it.
My daily course of food would be adobo for lunch usually and then chicken with some broth for dinner. Though I do remember that I had beef steak and some canned tuna for lunch yesterday.^_^ Well, anyway I think I mightve mixed them up sigh.. hehehe

*LOL* mimpi, I can hardly remember from lunch to dinner what I had for lunch! Don't ask me what I had for breakfast or anything from the day before. Sometimes, I eat because I have to, and what it is is not important enough for me to remember, as long as I have eaten SOMETHING!

Absolutely not, James. I am trying very hard to eat a little healthier this year. No butter, except when I have my 9 grain toast............or corn on the cob...............or peas............or broccoli and cauliflower............but, it is REAL butter, not margarine. And, when I use sugar, I use a brown sugar, real brown sugar, not the stuff that is just sprayed with a caramel coating, and the veggies are fresh, and .................Oh, I may be in the wrong discussion.

Haha never thought this would be such a difficult question! I think we ate carrots with chicken and pasta, but that could've been Sunday...no, we ate spaghetti then...yeah carrots I think! It do is quite hard to remember our daily meals, good you brought the topic up :-)
On the other hand, when something special happens during the meal or even that day, I can remember very vividly how we were eating this or that when this or that happened. And I also tend to remember food from special occassions, like Christmas, birthdays, just random parties, but not my daily dishes...

Yes eVoLi, we tend to remember things when they are special out of the grind but see how miserably we fail to remember about yesterday's menu!

I make it a point to remember because I want to be sure that our diet is varied and nutritious and that we do not just eat the same foods all of the time, which is an easy habit to get into. I have noticed anecdotally that people I know who may have lived long but seem to have a lot of health problems in their "old age" are those who were very particular about their food and only ate a few favorite things day after day.
Actually, although I do not record every single meal, I do keep a food diary online where I write down some of the foods hubby and I ate and an overview of the nutritional content and how it was prepared and why we ate that particular food. On Monday, we had a yogurt drink for breakfast and went out to our favorite sandwich shop for lunch. Our sandwich was whole-grain oat bread, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, green pepper, chicken, olives, onion slices, etc., and we split a bowl of broccoli cheese soup with that. For late dinner we had turkey in gravy, mashed potatoes, corn bread stuffing with celery, onions and cranbetties, and cooked spinach. Our bedtime snack was one fresh-baked cookie each and a small glass of milk. For portion control, I freeze the cookie dough in singles and bake them 2 at a time on the bottom shelf of our countertop oven along with the meal.

It is very often difficult to remember what meal we have had the previous day. So forget about telling you what I have had the day before yesterday. Only when I have made something different from the usual meals do I remember what was made. Otherwise like you I have to think about what I have had. By the way I will be having some yummy prawns for lunch today!

Let us see... today is Monday!!! But I can still remember what I had last Monday. I had a pizza for brunch and then chinese food for dinner. The days between now and then, well, that is another story although I had shrimp pasta alfredo and salad last night.
