United Nations (UN) , useless or helpless?

hi friends.i think UN was founded after the second world war with a lot of goals to achieve among which stopping wars between countries is a major goal but i think they havent achieved the goal yet as in the last 63 years,we witnessed,indo-pak war,indo-chinese war,isreal-palestian war and even the recent war in iraq.what was the Un doing when all these wars took place.it is as useless as the league of nations.with the present form,another indo-pak war is very near.what do you think of UN,helpless or useless or wat?

UN is not useless. I think it is a case of helpless. according to the UN charter, all the permanent Un leaders should agree for UN to take any action.
Israel always takes u.s.a Into confidense before launching any attack.
India took russia into confidence before sending mirage deep into srilanka.
Pakisthan always takes china intO confidense to make sure that there is never a consenses on a issue & the aggresive nations go scott free.
It is more a case of helpless rather than useless. UN is still doing a credible job with its peace keeping forces at various countries. And is also distributing a huge amount of aid to countriews ravaged by civil war.
