Which is better JAVA or .Net

For those planning to dive into one of these two streams, which is better - JAVA or .NET? Please give suggestions

Java is much more flexible and allows the codewriter a lot more flexibility than .net or xml but you can use encoding for both in your Java coding. Java really is the future of web applications and database management GUI's

Well, actually, Java is growing too much, and many companies wants java programmers. Comparing in terms or the Java Framework and .NET Framework, I thing .NET Framwork is better. Why?, I think .NET is Java++, I mean, Microsoft get all the good things abount Java and added another good suff...

It's hard to compare which is better, if you are looking for jobs, then it depends on your local job market. In my country, I think .NET programmers have higher demand, so it's good to learn .NET programming here. Also, many companies here are using Microsoft platform, so it's good to develop .NET applications too. I only learned basic Java, so I can't compare Java with .NET. I really like .NET programming, as there are always new versions and new functionality, also I can easily find resources from the Internet, or attend Microsoft seminars.
