I haven't heard anything about actual rates rising, but we always prepare for changes in seasons. It's so easy to crank up the AC in summer or turn up the heat in winter, but we're actually trying to see how far we can go into the winter without using our heater. Small, twenty dollar electric space heaters use a fraction of the energy that a house-wide system does, and MAN do they warm up a room. Also, as far as generally cutting down on electric costs, we managed to cut forty dollars off of our bill by replacing eight bulbs in our house with those fluorescent ones. They're more expensive, but they last longer, it's a softer, easier light to deal with, and it uses a TON less energy than regular bulbs do.

The government took price caps off of some utilities.I guess i got unlucky and mine was one of them.Rate increase of at least 40 percent. You cut Your bill by $40 by using fluorescent bulbs?Ill have to try that. Thanks
