If you knew you were going to be stranded on a remote deserted tropical island what five items would you make sure to bring? Assume you will have all the fresh drinkable water you would need, you also would have vegetation and animals available for food. But would bring? Just 5 now and no more. For me, my bible first, a good sharp knife, magnesism fire striker, a large cast-iron pot and a compass. So what do you think you would bring?

What a great question!, haha. I've been sitting here for five minutes wondering myself because mostly everything you can make if you have a little imagination.
Hmmmm, ok here goes:
1. A REALLY BIG Dog, lol!
2. Heavy Rope
3. Flint
4. Cast Iron Pot is good
5. Very sharp Bowie Knife
I guess that would be it. I'm sure I'll see something different from the other answers and say, "Oh Yehhhhh, I forgot about that, duh".
That was fun....take care.

LOL! Yep the first thing I did when I saw your list was ahhhhhhhhhh! I forgot my dog. I sat for the longest time and debated whether I should include the possibility of having a companion. Because I figure I would proably die of boredom or start talking to a coconut like Tom Hanks LOL! Thanks for you response. Happy Posting! oohcute2340

HaHa, what's funny is, I don't have a dog, I have a cat.
She's 16 years old though (that's her picture), has arthritis, and of course, would never get along with the dog. The only reason I mentioned bringing a dog with is for protection from those big ol' critters running around on that island that I'm not aware of yet, haha.
Oh heck now I'm feeling guilty I didn't mention her, but it's for her own good, lol! She'd be miserable. Good Grief, you'd think I was leaving next week, haha.
Oh, poor, poor Tom Hanks. Uh Oh, maybe I should bring a dentist with me, lol!!!

HaHa, I have a cat too, shhhhhh! don't tell Romeo I didn't include him, he will wait 'til I am asleep and then "nip" my nose. I didn't like that Tom Hanks movie at all it was so incredibly depressing, I mean really he didn't get the girl in the end, it started bad, and went to worse :).....but it did leave me with lasting thoughts whenever I see a B-ball. See you around the discussion boards. Enjoy! oohcute2340

Hmmm...this is a good discussion. I was a Boy Scout for several years, so I have had some camping/survival experience. Food and water are covered, so tools would probably be on the top of my list. One thing I would want to consider is how long I was to be expected to stay. I would also want to know whether or not I was going to have to try to be rescued, or if I just had to survive a certain length of time. A good fixed-blade knife would probably be the first thing I would want. My first choice would probably be the military style K-BAR. I would probably want a good supply of small-diameter rope or parachute cord. This would enable me to use lashings to build a shelter of some sort. I learned to cook without pots and pans when I was a Boy Scout, so I would likely decide not to have the pot. However, I would probably want a good metal coffee can with the plastic lid on it. This would allow me to use the can to boil the crab I caught around the island, then I could use the can to either store some water to drink at night, or I could use it to put some small twigs in during the rains. The lid would keep the stuff dry so that I could easily start a fire once the rains stopped. Depending on the size of the island, I probably wouldn't need a compass. I have a pretty good sense of direction, and could likely find my way around without it, especially if the island was not very large. I would definitely want the fire-starter. The fire could be used to cook, stay warm if the nights became chilled, and signal for help. The last item on my list would probably be my gerber multi-tool. It has several tools that would make life a little easier.
So, I guess my list would be:
1. Fixed blade knife
2. Rope
3. Coffee can (with the lid)
4. Fire-starter
5. multi-tool

Great discussion and a tough one too.I'd bring :
1) something to start a fire
2)machette to cut vegetation as well as kill wild animals
3)Clothing including sheets for the cold nights and to wear even though I amy not need much clothing lol
4)I'd bring the bible too(I stole that from you) but I suppose I would need some sort of inspiration
5)Hand operated entertainement ,a tv or a game.Something you just wound up and allow it to play.

Oh dear, you are serious one aren't you?? It is just a fun little talk and the time spent on the island was 5 years, so one assumes that you are rescued in 5 years. The sattelite radio was/is a good idea. I appreciate you responding to a topic you find retarded, me if the topic doesn't interest me on any level, I don't bother with it, seems a waste of my time and efforts and others time and efforts too. Happy Posting! Be happy, be joyful, be safe and be strong! oohcute2340

Good point timmons I must admit I didnt look at it like that you are obviously a thinker but I think the aim of the discussion was to test your survival skills when you have limited resources.Remember survivor ,well in a scenario like that except that you get to choose the resources that you think you need the most

Laptop with a solar charger and the ability to get on the internet by satellite? A good boat with enough fuel to get back to civilization (is that cheating?) A large pot and fire striker, I guess. If it is a small island, won't need a compass. A knife, yes. A large piece of waterproof fabric?
