Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred 10 help needed

Does anyone know how to get it working ? The setup was easy enough. When I got to the part about the headset thats when I started having a problem. What ever I do it says vol. to low . I can hear it but it can't hear me . Can anyone help? I did not get a book with it . I bought it on ebay. Thank you
