I lot of people think that diabetes is a killer. But with the right diet and change of life style, one can live a very long time with the disease.

Well that's really true. In my case I was diagnosed to have it two years ago but last year my Blood Sugar remained normal because of diet and change in the food I eat. Many says that diabetes is not the killer bur the complication behind it. Most that die is because of the complication you might get because this disease encourages other kind of health problems like cancer, liver problems, and heart disease. So when having it it is best that you take extra good care of what you eat and take the medication as religiously as possible and constant visits to your doctor might help prevent it from getting worse.

This is true for many who are diabetic but, unfortunately, it's not true for everyone. My granddaughter is 17 and has had Type 1 diabetes for about 5 years. During the past two years she has had increasing health problems related to her diabetes along with a sudden and severe inability to control her blood sugar and ketones. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and, because of that, she has also developed arthritis and neurological problems as her body attacks itself. As I write this she's being transferred from a hospital near her home in Maryland, where she's been a patient for two days, to Johns Hopkins Medical Center...a larger, more sophisticated facility where the hope is that the doctors there will be able to figure out what's going on with her. Our greatest fear at this time is that this disease will take this lovely young girl from us.
