The feedback I keep getting from some people is you can blog about anything and make money. I am quickly finding out you have to have a platform to blog from, and actually provide information or a service that will benefit others. I am hearing people getting tired of click on this click on that to earn pennies. Are other folks running into that scenario.

Yes. You can actually earn big time by blogging.Though I don't do this, I still have a blog. You may start with blogspot.com or search for free sites that can give you a website. You have to keep it active for about 3 months before you start looking for sites that will pay you to blog about their topics. Blogs can range from $5-$200.
