Do people really make the big bucks on Ebay? The ones I am talking about are the people selling products from a wholesaler or supplier, and they are acting as the middleman in the deal.

In my opinion you either have to be the first with a new supplier before others jump on the bandwagon. Either that or you need to have better sales pages than those before you.
I like to go to yard sales and second hand shops looking for things that have value that I can get for pennies.
