Pack Rat or Organized?

I was surprised today with our quarterly visit from the Pest Control man, Joe, and am frantically trying to get my "area" in somewhat of a shape. I think a pile is a shape, right? Like a triangle? LOL! It got me to thinking, are you a pack rat or are you organized? I tend to lean more towards the pack rat side. I have such a hard time throwing anything away! Thank God my husband is so very patient!

This clutter thing is going to kill me. I have an unusually large house, and every inch of it is full of things that should have gone in the trash or to Goodwill ages ago! I know a maid can be hired. Are there people who undo the clutter? I'll take yet another part-time job to get one of those! I just never get things straightened out entirely.

I hope neither of us has this horrible disorder. Frankly, I'm lazy, and I have more to do than there's time for. If I had a few spare minutes here and there, I wonder if I'd use them for eliminating clutter?!?

I surely don't think I have this disorder, more of laziness, really. I have no problem controlling his things, it's mine that pile up! I still have a decent path through my room and he doesn't have a problem with it!

And it seems the more space we have just means the more space for more stuff! I don't want anyone to think I take lightly a hoarding disorder either. That is some serious stuff! I really think I have one foot in!

I don't consider myself a pack rat but I can never keep my desk or closet organized. The other day I had so much stuff in my desk that I finally started cleaning it out, by the time I got though I had a big bag of junk to get rid of. I found papers that had been in there since 2000. One closet was so full of Christmas junk that I couldn't even get in there. At Christmas time I pulled everything out and put up the tree, after I took the tree down I finally went though the closet and cleaned everything out and got rid of what I didn't what. I seen a show one time that talked about how to get rid of clutter, they said to put things in three piles, one for the things you don't want, one for the things you what to keep because you might need it latter on, and one for the things you really what to keep, when you get though sorting take the first two piles and get rid of it because pile number two is never going to be used anyway. This has helped me out a lot.

I never have a pile number 2 though! It's always things I may need!Actually I am really not that bad, I've seen worse, and it probably comes down to not getting around to it in a timely fashion and that is why it piles up. If I would address the issue when the mail came in, instead of piling it up, putting it off till later, I may stand a chance. I love those shows and sometimes watch them, but they intimidate me, because I'm so guilty of EVERYTHING!!

My husband has so much stuff! And he dont use most of it and I try to get rid of it but then he goes "I use that" or he will pick something up at a garage sale that we dont need and he has "what if we need it and then we will have one." I tend to try to be more organized or at least try. haha. My husband on the other hand is more of the packrat type.

Oh ya, my husband laughs at my piles, but heaven forbid I try to throw anything of his away! I don't have a problem controlling his "things"! It's mine I can't part with!

That is awesome! I haven't always been this way either. I used to be so "controlled" by housework and clutter that it got the best of me. I swore it off! Now it has gone to the other extreme. Not hoarding, but I always joke that I am working on my "pilots" license, a pile here, a pile there, a pile here...
