Nostradamus, 2012, The End of the World... (?)

I was watching a program on TV last night about Nostradamus and the year 2012. Apparently that year is going to be a significant year for this world. They are alluding to it being the end of the world. I admit, I have not ever really followed Nostradamus or his predictions. I have heard of him but have never researched what he has said or if anything has ever come true in the past that he has predicted. This show, however, scared me a little. 2012 is 3 years away. From what I understand the Mayan's have also predicted the same thing and the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. So what are your thoughts? Do you believe this prediction and if so, why? Or do you think it's all a bunch of nothing? Has Nostradamus predicted things before that have come to pass? If so, can you share it with me because I'm not aware of them.

What is going to happen in 2012? Nothing. The Mayancalender doesn't end in 2012, it turns over. Our calenders turn every december 31st, so we go and buy another one, no world ending. The mayan prophecies are way over hyped. they didn't posses any astronomical knowlage that we don't, in fact, they knew nothing they didn't observe with the naked eye. Nostrodamus isn't prediction, it's POSTdiction. One can take most of his quatrains and interpret them any number of ways. They have been twisted, turned and interpreted 80 ways from sunday over history. The premise of the 2012 is that our solar system is suposed to pass through the galactic equator, many people pushing this stuff claim it happens every 60,000 years or so. Not so, actualy we don't know exactly how long the cycle is, but we have narrowed it down to somewhere between 26 million and 30 million years, by rough estimates, we passed through it a few million years ago so we still have a long way to go. The 2012 is way over hyped and things like the history channel shockumentaries only serve to push this junk on people who aren't aware of actul research and scientific data. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hope this allayed your fears a bit.

I think you are doing a lot to help us think straight in this little corner of the world. I like the term postdiction. I do not like to see people become all wary and scary.

I don't like watching those shows but I feel like I have to because I love scaring myself lol. I am quite skepticle about Nostradamus and his predictions. A lot of what he has predicted like Hitler and his army and how this earth would become distroyed by storms and tradgedies. He has also told us about Sadam Hussain and how he would try to take over the world. Mostly all the disasters that have already happened. I know that he's called the end of the world a couple other times and that didn't happen yet. It was suppose to happen sometime in the 80s and didn't, then I heard when the year 2000 came it was suppose to be the end also. Now what puzzles me is there are more people in this world that have the gift of Nostradamus that can see what the future has in store for us and they are slowly surfacing. I can't remember this lady's name but she was another one like Nostradamus who was more precise on predictions. I have also seen a show about all of this and the Mayan's calendar and how the earth's lifeline will end at 11am on Dec 21st, 2012. It's very hard to try to believe what they have to say about what's going to happen after today but a lot of the past has already revealed that these people were correct in their predictions.

I forgot to add... my views on Notradamus's theories are simalar to the bible's revolations. If you read through that chapter you will see what is suppose to come about in the end of time as well. After I read this, I was scared seriously!

I have a book on Nostradamus and some of his predictions. As far as I am aware some of his predictions have come true in the past. I suppose that you could also say that anything can be matched or created to match his predictions. Will the world end in 2012? I'm not so sure; I hope not anyhow! I think we will go on and on and I just hope that no one presses that magic button that can release all the nuclear bombs! Andrew

We watched that as well last night. My husband likes watching these types of shows. I don't know if I believe - I think my brain is kind of lumping it in with Y2K. If something is going to happen (asteroid hitting the Earth, magnetic poles shifting, etc.) I won't be able to do anything about it. I would end up being one of the people locked out of the ultra-safe shelters, LOL.

No one really knows when the world will end. As far as his predictions coming true, I'v seen documentaries on tv that stated that some have come true, others not, I also remember this big fuss about him back in 2001 when the Terrorists attacked in America. There was so much buzz about Nostradamus predicting the fall of the twin towers and that being the start of a third world war(america is at war, but not the world, at least not yet). Not so sure on how true that is

I believe that Nostradamus has been wrong with his last couple of predictions so I'm not concerned about this latest one. I've read about the Mayan calendar thing but don't put much stock in that either...it had to end sometime.

Certainly there has been something he has predicted correctly. Why else would they mention him so much? I think they like the other end of the world predictions, 2012 will come and go, perhaps something will happen and they will all exclaim that is what the prediction really meant, and then it will rarely be mentioned again. While for some reason we all hope to see the end of humanity in our lifetime, I doubt it will happen in mine.

You know what? I haven't seen that program about Nostradamus and the year 2012, but I heard the end of the world on 2012 from an acquintance. I can't hardly believe what he's sharing to me. I believe in predictions sometimes, I can only hope this prediction will come to pass. I want to do more. I want to accomplish my dreams. 3 years is so short a time.

well, those are just predictions. they may happen and they may not. whatever nostradamus and the mayans have predicted, we won't know when is the time that our world will end. anyway, we all have our choices. we can choose what to believe.

I have looked into the 2012 from both ....Nostradamus predicted things almost in riddle that leaves much to the individual to make it fit an event. Many claim him to be right many claim him to be wrong. The mayan's made many predictions based on the existence of people and country. They created calanders that ended when they believed that people or country to end. They were right with each calander and this is the last one that ends dec. 21, 2012. I think the day could be off some but hey its almost 4 years from now. I think it could happen...but "how" is the question.

Why do people believe in Nostradumus or any soothsayer! On many of these "predictions" why is it that we only know about these "predictions" only after it happens? Why can't they look at the "prediction" and see if it actually happens in the future?

No human being alive knows when this world will end! It could be today, next Friday or 1 million years from now! It will happen when it happens! When you see that 7 mile wide meteor plummeting to earth....then you know that's the day or not!

well if it is true then someone better tell the London Olympic committee as they are pretty busy building the olympic village right now! The end of the world has been predicted so often that I stopped worrying about it a long time ago. It frightened the life out of me as a child when I heard people talking - all those sleepless nights over nothing.

The way I understand it, it is more how people interpret what Nostradamus has said. The Bible admonishes us all to watch because NO ONE knows what is to come. It is like a popular 70's Christian book called "The Late Great Planet Earth". If 2012 is the end, I do not want to know it. I need to live my entire life as if tomorrow is the end.

I think that these things are just urban legends. People are entitled to what they want to believe in. The Mayan calendar does not necessarily end in 2012. Calendars represents cycles and when a cycle ends, the counting starts all over again. What does this tell us? It means that the world is not going to end but rather the era will end. Don't mind all those predictions. You will only stress yourself out if you keep on thinking that the world will end in 3 years!

There were many predictions about the end of the world, but never became true. I do believe that there's and end to this world, but no one knows when. All the hardships, crimes and natural calamities are happening. I consider these as indicatons and warnings, so I think it's near.

The bible says that no man knows the day or the hour. So, that tells me that no one knows exactly. I do believe that we are living in the "end times", just look at the world around you, the things that are going on, it's unbelievable.

Nostradamus, yeah, they like to trot him out every year and try to scare everybody with his 'predictions'. My new guilty pleasure is Pastor Manning on Youtube. He's a hoot and a half. You have to give these people props for being passionate in what they believe. Don't take it too seriously, lol.
