When is the best time of year to buy strawberries?

I love eating strawberries, but I'd like to know when they are considered "in season"?

Hi, I always thought they were a summer fruit but I know a person can find it in the winter too.

Strawberries are an early summer fruit, so it rather depends where you are, if you want fresh, local ones. In New Jersey the strawberry season begins at the end of May, peaks during June and ends in mid-July.
