Discussing Movies on MyLot

Movies are often discussed here on myLot, and I was just thinking that so many people don't like to know a lot about a movie before they've had a chance to see it. That is why I think members should post a warning about a movie they are discussing if there are potential spoilers in the post. I would like to know how the rest of you feel about this.

I agree a 'Warning do not read further if you don't want to read the spoilers' would be appreciated by the readers of film reviews if they haven't seen the film and don't want the ending or certainly the plot revealed. Although a review is needed to be able to recommend others to go and see it or watch it. I like to hear about films worth watching although I did purposely find out what happened in the next episode of Saw, for example I wanted to know what was going to happen in Saw4 but only because I chose to read the spoilers, others may not, so if a warning is put up, then you no not to read any further unless, like me you are impatient to know what happens in the film!

Knowing the outcome really does spoil the movie for me, wolfie! I have been in the company of some people while watching a movie they have seen previously and the ones who can't control the urge to reveal all really make me angry. It's inconsiderate to reveal the outcome of a movie to anyone who does not wish to know.

When I see movies or television shows discussed, usually the poster puts in warnings about spoilers. That is the only polite thing to do .

I thought of this, GG, because I recently responded to a post where a very recent movie was discussed, and it went into quite a bit of detail if someone was reading it who had not yet seen the movie. Fortunately, I had seen the movie but that is not always the case.

I think that's a very good idea. Or maybe the poster can put in the subject area "plot revealed" along with the movie title. I am not a movie person. I will wait until the movie shows up on cable and watch at home. Last couple of times I went, I fell asleep. Missed a good part of the movie. I get so relaxed when I finally sit down that off I go to lala land.

I no longer go out to see movies, carolbee, but I also like to know something about the movie before I decide to buy it. I also have a neighbor who loves to share his movies with me. He usually gets them long before I do.

I constantly watch trailers, stephcjh, and that is how I determine whether or not I want to see the entire movie. They reveal some of the content, but not enough to make you feel like it's not worth seeing the movie.

This is so true. I don't usually post about movies, but the one time I did post about Noah's Arc, a series that just went to the movies, I did put *WARNING-SPOILERS* in the title just in case. Some people are nosy and will watch a movie anyway after hearing about it, others don't want to know a thing about it until they see it. But it should be up to the person, they shouldn't be smacked with it and have it ruined for them. Putting some warning about spoilers in a discussion is nothing more than a common courtesy that should be observed.

You are so right, drknlvly! It is the considerate thing to do. I just hate it when someone spoils a movie for me. I want the opportunity to see everything first-hand for myself - then form my opinions.

Hi worldwise,
Good topic!! I, personally like to j=hear other people's reviews on movies. I like to know their opinion of the movie just not necessarily the "whole movie".I like to know if they liked it, who the characters are and how they fared in the movie. Is it worth watching? I don't want to know the ending, or too much about any of the major scenes. Sometimes, something I might think is not worth watching is reviewed well by someone else and I watch it and agree that it was a good movie.
Warnings are a good thing if there are spoilers about the movie included in the discussion. That would be the courteous thing to do.
Have a nice day..

If people would only realize, crazy, that there is a right way and a wrong way to review movies! For me a good review whets the appetite(or turns it off), but I don't like to go into every detail of the content.

I do agree with you. Usually when i am reading a rewview about a movie on a websie it has a warning that the article might have a spoiler. However I dont mind reading a spoiler it gives me an idea how the story might develop and i will be more atenttive during the movie.

I sometimes like to read how a movie was enjoyed by one of the members here. I'd like to think I will remember the name of the movie so I can watch it myself given the chance...that's so unlikely actually...lol.
There have been times when the poster has avidly described the movie and I've thought...why did you do that?
I've also seen where the poster has said that the discussion has a spoiler for that particular movie...it's not so bad when they do this....I think a spoiler should always be announced automatically.
