This is a serious discussion from me....no really. I have been to the bank today to secure a loan to save my house. My wife does not know. I took a loan of £15,000. (approx $30,000) This means my house is secure for the next year and i can pay off all the credit card bills and have enough left over for my wife's 40th birthday. Where to take her? that is another discussion! Have you ever made a commitment that scared the sh!t out of you? This one has done that to me

Yes actually............marriage to a man who can't handle money! LOL Judging from the responses here, it sounds like the terms of your loan are really pretty good as long as the 8% rate is fixed for the term of it. So take a deep breath, don't tell your wife until AFTER her birthday, and try not to worry so much. And welcome to the brotherhood of people in debt and losing sleep over it! lol Good luck with it all.

At least you have a roof over your head, security and the best investment you can make is in bricks and mortar! I think you need to look at the positives and put things into perspective but I do hear what you are saying a house is a big commitment and a big expense, that certainly made me shiver too especially when I agreed to buy a home with my ex, I would have a noose around my neck for 25 years and then I added that onto my age and that was enough to send a solid gold shiver down my spine for sure, not sure what was worse looking back saddled with my ex for 25 years or a 25 year mortgage LOL!

I am too much of a free spirit, if it was just me then I wouldn't be so worried, I just love my freedom too much and being saddled with someone is more scary than being saddled with a mortgage ;0)

Friend we all have these kinds of shivers, for me the thought of leaving my job gives me the shivers, as I am already 51 years old, I am afraid, that I may not get another good paying job, these not only gives me the shivers, but it also gives me nightmares. Regarding commitment, I had the shivers when my daughter got married last year and there were huge bills to be paid, which luckily I paid it off.

Oh, poor xboy, doing something behind your wife's back, haha. Ewww, I don't know if I'd want to be in your shoes right now. You best tell her or it's the dog house for you to sleep in, lol! Seriously, IF I was married, and IF I had a younger daughter (mine are both adults thank goodness) and thought this was going to save my house and my sanity, I would have done this too. You do what you have to do. Please pay off those credit card bills completely and try to leave them that way. We ALL know what that's like and sometimes don't have the chance to do this. I'm not sure which Disney you should go to under the circumstances. Maybe the one that will be the least expensive right now so you can really have a wonderful time. Is Paris going to be a bit less expensive than the US? It still would be a wonderful surprise if you can do all the reservations and planning. I'm sure your daughter won't mind in the least which one you went to but if your wife doesn't want to come to the US, I don't know if I'd push it right now, lol! Take care, and yes, I do have the shivers for you, haha. I can't wait to hear the next episode in the life of xboxboy. Kinda like a Soap Opera.

Hi, Firstly, what makes me shiver is cold, utter cold. I did things like that a lot of time in my childhood that made me shiver. Like I bought a costly watch without the information of my parents, and then didn't showed it to them for like a month until they discovered it in my wardrobe. Regards, AJ-Rox
