Replying to respondants

One of the glorious things about mylot is that we can actually reply to responses as well as responding to the Original Post. That is what makes a discussion site a discussion site and it is what keeps the conversation moving. I was recently told by someone that I should not be replying to responses. I was even told that it was rude to do so. I find that completely false and I personally love it when people other than the OP reply to my responses on a topic. So my question is, when you come across an interesting discussion, do you just give your response and move on, or do you look at all the responses and reply when you feel a need?
