Anyone played the monster hunter freedom series?

I haven't played that game but my friend did, it looks pretty cool since I watched him and a group of people on the live streaming thing. He has Monster Hunter Tri, I don't have a wii, so I can't really play. =/ I'm an xbox person. ^_^" But the game looks pretty cool and fun. well, that's one of the worst game i have played but i have heard other people say that this is one of the games that you will either really love or really hate, and i belong to the group who really hate this game... personally i found the controls too clunky, the gameplay tedious and extremely boring and the character was not very well animated. oh well, i wonder why people like it i have heard that there are monsters that can take 8 hours of beating up in order to bring the down... is that true?
