Do you think reading can make you feel sleepy?

Some people used to say reading can make one sleepy and, hence, is a good way to make one fall asleep.
But the more I read, the more I am active in my mind, especially when the book is enjoyable. Finally, I am reluctant to have the book off my hands.
What do you think?

It all depends on the type of book I am reading. Usually a good novel will never make me sleepy. It makes me hooked to the book and I don't mind waking up until the wee hours just to know more about the contents. But I know what will make me sleepy. Whenever I read articles with no pictures, or newspaper about the politics (lol - I am not interested at all in them), and also about sports, I will doze off easily.
Reading things like decorating the house, cooking, and female stuffs usually make me alert. But manly things like repairing the house, or anything to do with man jobs usually make me sleepy. However, I don't mind accompanying my husband to go fishing once in a while.

Yes, reading always relaxes me. I can't seem to read a book without getting sleepy. I don't like to read books for that reason. Not that I don't like to read but I have small children and I'm scared that I might actually fall asleep and them still be awake. That wouldn't be good at all. Maybe when they get a little older I can do more reading. Sometimes I really think I would like to.

Hi, mein_traum.
I am like you, the more I read the more active my mind becomes and it can tend to wake me more than make me sleepy. But I understand people feeling this way because reading can tire your eyes and with tired eyes one tends to feel sleepy.
I do that to myself sometimes when I am having trouble falling asleep... I will spend sometime on the computer in a room with all the lights turned off because I know it makes my eyes tired.
