Could anyone tell me about RSS

I am wondering what RSS is and how does it works. I read about feeds and understand it has to do with RSS. But still do not know what it is. I am working on my blog, and see this RSS thing, but still can not figure it out. Anyone please explain this to me. Thank you for response

RSS is Real Simple Syndication, which means it a new feed and you need a feed reader to read them. I use Bloglines as my reader. Blogs have RSS feeds that you can subscribe to. Then each day you can scan the feeds you like and gain new info. Currently I have about 100 RSS feeds that I follow. A great way to find those posts you want to comment on.

how do you scan through 100 RSS feeds? that will take you half a day?
