what are some of the best ways to close a discussion

i guess the big question is how do i close a discussion that has grown old. where is it that i can accomplish this. also when is it a good time to close one. do you like to let it sit there until it gets fully resolved or if it just doesn't get any responses. If the conversation goes on forever how is it that you like to close them the best?

well till now i have never closed a discussion ...........
i like to award best response after 15 replies................
this will encourage them to respond to our topics again and again
