Handling withdrawal symptoms when quitting smoking

To those of you have tried giving up on smoking, how did you handle the withdrawal symptoms? What did it feel it? Kindly share your experiences here. Let me start, I've tried quitting smoking for over a dozen times already and I have yet to succeed. I have problems with the withdrawal symptoms. While trying to quit cold turkey, I started getting pimples and it was so hard to control despite my nightly facial cleansing regiment. It was so depressing that I had to smoke again. After a few months, I tried once more. The pimples started appearing again but not as many as the first time I tried quitting. Once I have lessened the number of cigarettes I consumed to about 1 a week, the pimples started clearing out and my skin is never been better. I guess the initial pimple breakouts was my body's way of detoxing all the harmful toxins caused by smoking.

Have you Considered finding yourself a quitting partner relatives, work colleagues and friends are a good place to start. Set a date to quit together and you will be able to give each other support. Think about starting an exercise program and a sensible eating plan. Again speak to your doctor or dietician. Exercise will give you more energy and help you to relax and relieve stress. Ask your doctor for advice. This is especially important if you have health problems or are concerned about issues such as depression. Nicotine replacement therapies can help as well. Patches, gum, inhalers. You can do it. If at first you dont succeed try and try again. Concentrate on the time you went without rather than the slip ups and I'm sure you'll get there. Good luck x

I've had like 5 quitting partners... most of them couldn't take not smoking so decided to quit on quitting. Exercise helps me mellow down the cravings since it helps increase happy hormones or the endorphins. I only smoke when I feel stressed and so instead of lighting up, I go for a walk to clear my head. Thanks for the support!

It sounds simple, but believe me it's sooooo hard to stay away from that addicting nicotine stick.

Hi Dianne Congratulations. You have now stopped smoking for good. May be the pimples break out, was the result of nicotine withdrawal. But it was only a temporary issue. Now you have the fantastic feeling of success in quit smoking. You can be a motivating person to your friends, who are yet to succeed. Please friends, note that withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, cough, headache, constipation, dry mouth etc..etc..are only temporary. If you withstand and come out of smoking,Your new happy life will begin. Not to forget, smoking is a killing habit. Please quit smoking for your sake if not for your family sake. Best wishes.

I use to smoke for a few years till I got pregnant almost 2 years ago. Smoking was actually how I found out i was pregnant. I went to lit one up one day and I puked and I could never light up another one without puking while i was pregnant. So I kinda quite cold turkey for 9 months. But then after I had my daughter I started smoking again. I was never ready to quit and I think thats why I started back up again. I have the control to quit when i need to though. I had surgery bout month and half ago and had to quit so my bones would knit together right. it was a 50 percent chance that they didnt knit together if i smoked. and it couldve resulted in me losing my foot so i just quit till my bones are together again. lol

lol. it's a nasty habit... It's hard to quit when your not ready and that maybe the reason I can't seem to quit for longer than a month. my reason to quit is purely because it stains my teeth. I have more concern over the condition of my teeth than my lungs. lol. I hope we could all beat this thing.

I quit when i found out i was preg. then i misscarried, i never started agian and the month after that i was pregnant again. . I know how long its been since i quit because the age of my first daughter ;) I didn't really have a whole lot of symptoms, and i smoked for 10 years.. i just gave up cold turkey.. i think you just really have to want to quit. and you ahve to avoid smoke and convince yourself how bitterly disgusting it is and how harmful it is to your body. . Good luck hun ;)

yah you are right about the toxins. I can only quit cold turkey when I try and notice that sometimes I get unbearable headaches that last for DAYS! Making pick up a cig again. It's good that you really cut down and you figured out how to do it without hurting your esteem too much. I always gain weight when I quit and that also really depresses me to where I end up smoking again. Sometimes it seems like it will be an endless battle but I really want to beat it. It seems like your head and body fight you when you want to quit. Oh I also notice that if I haven't smoked for a few days I start coughing and coughing, I get my lungs are trying to purge the toxins. I haven't smoked in over a week....i'm really trying here. I have noticed I've been breaking out since then but thought it was the new phisoderm face wash i've been using. Good luck don't give up

well i didn't have problems with the pimples when I quit. i used the patches and it did help curb the actual nicotene cravings, but I think my body (mentally) was rejecting it. Because my shoulders were so tense I thought they would snap at any given moment. I had to take the patch off at night because I had crazy, scary dreams (which actually is a side affect of the patches). But after the first month and a half it went away. But I stopped wearing the patches abotu two months later thinking I kicked the habit without finishing the program. I went back to smoking. I want to quit again, but I never want to experience that kind of pain ever again. Good luck.
