Do You Use The Internet on your mobile phone?

I've had a WAP phone ever since they came out, the WAP Internet was too expensive and rubbish to really interest me, it only ever gets used for downloading things like ring tones. and I haven't ever used a phone that access's the real Internet like an iphone. Personally I don't think I'd use it as there's nothing I do on the Internet that couldn't wait until I got home, some of the applications that help you find places near you look helpful though. Unless it's essential for your work I really can't see any other reason for having the Internet on your mobile, and most people have a laptop anyway these days.

I do use my iphone to look things up when I'm away from my computer. I don't have a laptop - well, I do, but I've (1) loaned it to the other roommate so she stays off our desktop computers and (2) it needs a new battery anyway so it has to be plugged in to work.
ANYWAY, I use my iphone to look up businesses, or info about things in meetings.

It must be very useful for looking things up when away from computers, but I never get very far from mine at the moment.

I wouldn't be able to cope, the keys are far too small for my big paws! I don't see the real need to be honest, personally not for me, for me a mobile phone just needs to have three functions, being able to phone obviously, text and a camera, they are the only three things I will ever use on my mobile, the rest is a complete mystery to me so I would never contemplate using the internet on it, even if it did have the function on it.

I hardly take pictures on mine even the camera is so rubbish compared to my other camera, but I might use it for the video function.

No. In fact I do not have that option. But I have seen some website in mobile. It is not at all very convenient - the display is too small. Besides, I might get habituated with it once I start using mobile internet. Presently, though, I have no plan to go ahead.

The screens are too small, this desire to make everything tiny is finally back firing, they are going to have start making mobile phones bigger again before long.

I do access the internet from my smart phone because after my pocket computer crashed with my "whole life" in it and took the back up files too, I have kept all of my important information in web-based applications. I also heavily rely on text messaging and email on my smart phone. It is expensive, and yes, the screen is pretty small for continuous access, and the "thumb pad" can be infuriating sometimes, but this way wherever I am it is possible to access needed information.
Instead of carrying scraps of paper, I e-mail my shopping list to the smart phone before going out to the store. After shopping, I e-mail the cost of the groceries or whatever back to my main computer for integration into my budget. I like to know at an given moment how much money I have left to spend.

That is a good idea with the shopping list, I don't yet have the proper internet on my phone but that's one good use for it if I ever get it.

Me too!For one thing, i do not want to pay for the extra charges of using the Internet on my phone when i can go back home to use it which the payment is already included in a monthly package bill. another thing is, i am not very good at this kind of things, so i find it difficult and troublesome and never got to the point of learning how to use it. =)

It is expensive for just using for leisure I'd rather use my home PC too.

Nah, I really have no interest in using the internet on my phone. It costs too much, and I get faster speeds on my computer anyway. That's one less thing to distract me while driving as well.

I've not really got much interest in it either though I can see how it could be useful to people who need internet access all the time.

I access the Internet on my Blackberry because:
(1) I'm constanly receiving email for work and, when I'm away from the computer, it ensures I won't miss an important message.
(2) I work away from home frequently and I don't have a back-up battery for my computer, so this helps me finish what needs to be accomplished in a pinch.
(3) During meetings, sometimes I need to pull some research and I'm able to do so without dragging my laptop along with me.
It works for me and the type of work I do, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for everyone. I guess if the phone is just for personal use, it wouldn't be a handy feature. That's just my opinion, though.

I can see how it would help with work, but for me all it's good for is downloading ring tones. But I can't access the real internet with my phone like you can with a blackberry or Iphone, I might use it more if I could.

It is useful if the Internet is down for some reason where you are I suppose, none of my emails are that important that they can't wait at least a day though.

I do that once in awhile. I am likely to use it if I am in a restaurant waiting for service or Whatever is on the cellphone just is no comparison to the laptop. I think that there are some good networks out there but I havent really be impressed with what is on my cellphone.

I haven't been able to connect to my mobile phones internet services yet but I'm sure there's not much I'd use it for, I'd rather use a computer to access the internet anyway.

That's another thing it is more expensive to use the internet on a phone, if they introduce a flat rate with a monthly fee like they have with broadband to home computers that might make it more popular.

hello nancycryoina
I use the GPRS service quiet often. The GPRS service is provided by my network provider at a cheap rate of around $4 per month. So i subscribe to it almost every month. that i do to keep my self connected all through the day. That apart i can download themes & ringtones directly from the wap sites.Only thing bad about it is that its very slow to access. But thats ok,i compromise with the speed for money.thank you.

Good to hear the GPRS services work I might consider using it if I'm ever in a big city.

I have had phones where it is possible to connect to the internet but to be honest I have never been able to figure out how to use that feature properly!!
I think having a phone with GPRS is probably really useful as like you said, it can help you to locate places depending on where you are, but other than that, having the internet on my phone doesn't appeal to me that much (at least not right now anyway)

On my new phone I can't connect to the internet either, I'm going to have to take it in the shop and ask them to fix it.

Right now, i use my phone with 12GB free data access for 6 month or every a month you get 2GB free data access. If you use it more than 2GB, you will cost 0.275 Rupiah/KB. In this phone not all SIM card can be use, only for SIM card Smart Provider by smart-telecom. At this moment is still Promotion until March 31, 2009 and only a few place to sell that product.

Hi nancycrowina, three weeks back I was looking for the Nokia E63 at a phone kiosk in the shopping mall. The salesman introduced me the Nokia 5800. He told us that it was the latest and had more attractive features than the former one.
Yeah, it looked lovely and had the wonderful touch screen as well. I then tried to use it to get on internet. Well other than yahoo site and youtube I could login mylot site as well. I found it’s an advance device to acquire latest information online but not suitable and convenient for doing the keying of words for the keypad was too small if compare to the keyboard of a laptop.
Happy posting

I couldn't write a mylot post on mobile keyboard it would drive me mad, they need to work out a better way of attaching a keyboard to a mobile phone on the move. In one computer shop I saw a girl using a key board that wasn't solid it was being projected onto the desk but it worked just like a normal keyboard. If they could some how incorporate that into a phone that would make things easier, but I bet it would cost a lot of money.

Hi nancyrowina!!
First time I used internet on my phone was only a month ago, when I was getting frustrated with my current work, and was using it to access my emails just to see if there are answers to my applications to other companies!!! LOL
Using a prepaid account, it was also expensive, coz even if I just use it for a few minutes, it will automatically charge me for the full 30 minutes. And if I accidently cut off my internet connection and restart, it will charge me anew!!!
I have a laptop, unfortunately, an old one, the battery is shot, so I can't really use it outside.
Right now I am a recovering mobile internet addict, hahaha. I really burned money on the past month just accessing it.
Cheers!

That sounds like a right rip off charging for 30 minutes every time you use it, I'm glad my WAP services don't work.
