Does anyone know of any free antivirus software available? If so, have you tried it, and would you recommend it?
I was going to download the AVG software after my Norton expired this year, but it is no longer free. Although, they do have a 30 free trial, which I downloaded and I have 5 days left.
So if anyone has any free downloadable antivirus software that they would recommend, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for reading and have a good day!

I would like to suggest you try the free version of Comodo Internet Security. It is an integration of a firewall and an antivirus. Comodo Antivirus detects malware missed by AVG. I know because I have been using AVG and Comodo. If you are not confident about the security level of Comodo Internet Security you can have both installed wih no problem. I dare say it because that is the current situation on my system. Go to Comodo.com.
all the best.

That's pretty interesting rosdimy. Thanks for the information. I know when I went to download the trial version of AVG it would not let me do it until I uninstalled my old version of Norton. So it is good to know that you can have both at the same time. Thanks for your help and thanks for your response in this discussion!

Thanks for the additional information on those antivirus programs Rosdimy.
I have a question for you that really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
How do you make the bold letters in your discussion here at myLot?
Thanks again and have a bright day!

I would like to add that Avast and Avira have certain advantages over the AVG Free Edition. The problem is we need to get a licence code from them and have it renewed every year. Nothing wrong in that but what would happen if we cannot get online when the licence expires? I did use them but I decided not to wait and see what would happen. There had been timws when I was offline for long stretches of time. My son is using Avast and Comodo Internet Security on his laptop. CIS won an award last year (if you have been to their website then you already know about this).
all the best,

Wow, I am so amazed with the different programs that are coming out here in this discussion. I am not aware of the Avast program. I will have to do some research in order to figure out which one I will use.
By the way, Jidhukm, it looks like you are somewhat new here at myLot. A great big welcome to ya! Best wishes and thanks for your response in this discussion!

Maybe I needed to put the word free in front of it, or maybe I just downloaded the wrong version. But I was also told by someone else that they quit offering the free version. I'll try your link. Thanks for your help owlwings! It is greatly appreciated as always! Have a wonderful day!

while my friend I believe in one thing very much that is good things are never before free. Although there are exceptions but in the antivirus speed I would say that the free antivirus offers are never very useful. The best will definitely be avg. it is free and it is useful to certain extent and so I can read it as one of the best. The other one which I know personally is avast. It is good but some say that it has inbuilt virus and it so I don't know how it works. But about a firewall I can tell you soon alarm is one of the best I have ever seen. It is very robust very powerful and it is very light of the system it worked in such a stealth mode that I never felt like any scanning process going on. But the only problem is that firewall and not an antivirus scanner.

Well, they do say there is no such thing as a free lunch. HaHa! So I guess I will have to figure out on my own which one will be the best to use. There seems to be quite a few of them out there. Now I only have a couple of days left on the free trial.
Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a nice day!

Hi JummyTao and thank you for your suggestion. As a matter of fact, there was a time when I would simply delete the viruses myself. Up until last winter, I was very capable of doing this. But then, something struck my computer and I was unable to locate it. I lost everything. That was the point when I finally realized I needed help (not mental - LOL).
Thanks for your response in this discussion, and I hope you have a great day!
