Have you ever gone ice skating? Are you any good at it?
I try to go at least once a winter. My son and I went this evening, I just got back. We spent about 2 hours on the ice. There's a park downtown that has a large outdoor skating rink, right under the city's Christmas tree, which is still up and lit. I really wanted to get down there before Christmas, but just didn't have the time, so it was nice that the decorations were still up.
I'm not a very good skater, but at least I don't fall down at all. I just skate around in a circle. My son, who is 11, like to skate as fast as he can and then slide on his knees. He did that for about an hour. Ah to be young again, I can only imagine how much pain I'd be in if I did that even once! I'm in pain as it is because my body isn't completely used to ice skating since I don't do it often.

I've never been on ice skates. But I would loved to have been able to go some place and ice skate. But I'm too old now and couldn't get on the skates with a hip replacement. Don't think that would be very smart. I'll just have to dream about how it would have been for me.

I'm glad I've had a chance to do it. The first time we went my oldest was probably around 4 or 5, it was the first year the park downtown had the outdoor ice rink. I'd never ice skated before, but I had roller bladed and was fairly good at that. It didn't take long for my son to catch on, and after I had the twins I made sure my oldest and I went every year. There were a couple years we went every weekend. It was my break from the twins and my alone time with my oldest.
I don't go as often anymore, mostly due to time and money. I don't own ice skates so it costs me $6 to skate and my son is $4, next year he'll be $6 as well because he'll be 12. One of these years I'm going to take the twins too, get them used to the ice. I wanted to this year, but each time I get a chance to go I forget, or get too busy, or don't have enough money.

I used to ice skate when I was younger. You really have to have strong ankles (which I didn't).
My son enjoys ice skating very much, and he's 17.
Since I can't ice skate myself, I really enjoy watching it, and figure skating on TV. I took my son to see Disney On Ice a few times, so that's probably where he got his interest.

I used to ice skate when I was younger. I loved it. I played a little ice hockey also. I used to skate at a local pond and had even skated in Central Park. After hurting my knees and back I stopped skating, I did not want to go through the pain. I would love to do it again just not the pain after.

It sounds like you both had a wonderful time together. I would love to have seen the park and the lights. I have never gone ice skating but, as a child and teenager, used to do a lot of roller skating in a rink and that was fun. I never went down on my knees whilst skating though! Ah, the youthfulness. I don;t want to hear you referring to your self as not being young, You are still only a baby! and a pretty one too from you pictures. Blessings

After the life I've lived, I sure don't feel like just a baby. I know I'll think differently in a few decades, but still, the thought that I'm nearing 30 scares me!

I have never been ice skating, ever. I haven't really had the chance to go ice skating because we don't have any rinks around here that are close. It would mean we'd have to travel a few hours to go to a rink and in my opinion it's really not so worth it. I've never really wanted to go ice skating that much. It was just something that never really grabbed my attention that much.

I had to travel about half hour to this rink, but for me it is worth it. I enjoy skating, and there's nothing like skating outdoors. I've been to an indoor rink once or twice, it just isn't the same. Plus the indoor rinks are too scheduled, this outdoor rink is open all day everyday, so whenever I get the urge to skate, I just go.

Yes, I've gone ice skating before when I was little, though I never learned to ice skate. I was the one that would hold on to the railing on the side wall. LOL And as I didn't trust anyone to teach me, I never learned. Knowing that I could slip and fall on the hard cold ice was enough to scare me away from trying. Though looking back I wish I had learned as I went to the rink often and was envious of the others that could ice skate.

I took to the ice pretty well when I first started, but I spent a lot of time roller skating and roller blading when I was a kid, so it wasn't too difficult for me. I have fallen once or twice. I make sure when I bring any of my kids that they wear snow pants because it pads their fall a little bit. The ice is hard and it hurts, especially if you fall on your knees, but it's still fun and worth trying.

I used to roller skate a lot as a kid, had those old fashioned type skates. Then when I was 14 I got a pair of roller blades and loved them too. My son and I wear the same size shoe, so sometimes now I'll wear his roller blades and go rollin around.

I am no good at it at all. I live in South Alabama and haven't had a whole lot of opportunity to try. I've gone maybe 3 times in my life. Maybe 4, but I can think of 3 times right off the top of my head. Anyway, I always admired the graceful ice skaters in the competitions, and then I got on ice skates and now I admire anyone who can stand up! I've heard that roller blading is similar (as opposed to regular roller skating) and I'm not very good on those blades either!
I really do admire the beauty of someone who's really good on ice skates, though. And it's got to be good exercise for as much as my body has ached after I have done it!

I don't have any sense of balance so I have never tried to ice skate. Heck I don't even try to rollar skate. I must admit though I love to watch the ice skating programs they have on television. And when they have a speical on television where the ice skaters are getting points for the way they skate. I love to watch how they skate as the music plays.

Yes I have gone. No I stink at it. I have bad ankles. I spend more time on my butt than anything else. And having wet bottom doesn't appeal to me any more. I do enjoy watching other people though.

I don't ice skate but I think it is a wonderful skill and anyone who skates deserves some kind of appreciation for the effort put in to learn it. Cheers!!

I only go Ice Skating for parties and stuff. And I am extremely bad at it. When I first went (when I was around 8), I tried really hard and kept falling over. So now I'm the kind of person who makes her way around the rink by clinging the side of the rink and refusing to move an inch away from it.

ice skating is really fun if you go together with a variety of company. The company should comprise of people who already know how to ice skate, so that they can teach you and people who don't know how to ice skate so that they can learn along with you! Some people have said that roller blading techniques bear resemblence to ice skating but i can say that i know friends who can roller blade but are just completely scared in the ice skating rings.
