geee sounds like china... (hint hint)He is wrong, TV doesnt influence you it only gives you information and you decide what you do with it.If he is so religious he should Lead by example not by wording. I think he is too possessive and uses religion as an excuse to keep you in check.

Television and movies definitely influence people and the way they think and behave, even what they are attracted to. In order to get emotionally invested and involved with characters in a film it requires that we "suspend disbelief". And when you do that you open up the doorway towards being influenced. Do you own a southpark shirt? Then you have been influenced. What kind of car do you drive? What kind of soda do you drink? What kind of clothes do you wear. Even if a film, television show, commercial or magazine add does not change our basic character, we are all still influenced by what we see and hear on a daily basis.
I think most people responding to this discussion are really commenting on the amount of control this woman's husband has over the decisions she gets to make about the things she wants to do.

You have no idea what type of influences I have been under.I was married to an abusive husband,I changed my life in order to keep peace in my house. After I grew a back bone and had a trusted friend,a nurse, take photos of the last beating I endured.Having the photos taken was the ending of my first marriage. I met a very religious man and and he helped me go back to the person I was before my first husband. I did not run out looking for a new husband. I took a long break from any relationship and learned what I would or wouldn't accept."Free will",such a good thing.
P.S. I don't watch southpark or drink carbonated sodas...ever, it's bad for my health.Car I have I got for the gas mileage, Have a nice day and happy new year

I understand exactly what you are saying. Most people are living out a script that the media has assigned them. The ideas about what is "normal" are presented to us through television and other mediums.
When I was in the sixth grade a little movie called 'Clueless' came out. I went to a predominantly white school, and all of the girls there lived out that stereo typical white experience. The weeks that followed that movies release were a prime example of what we are talking about, the way they walked, talked, and the clothes they wore had to be in line with what the movie said was cool.
I went to see the GI joe movie, which I thought was cool because I love action flicks. Leaving the theater and driving home with my two guy friends who went with me was like babysitting a couple of five year olds who had been watching Power rangers. And we are all in our mid to tlate twenties or early thirties.

That doesn't sound right to me. Its not movies or TV that corrupt its what you do with the information. If you are a good person, TV won't change that. I have watch hundreds of movies and I am still the same good and moral person I was before I starting watching TV. You can get influential information from anywhere, next will he be forbidding you to use the computer or read a book? He sounds like a control freak of the worst kind. Don't let him run your life.

I am a religious person and true Catholic and I do watch TV and movies and such... I dont know what type of religion does your husband believe in, but I think if you have a strong religion and faith, you wont be easily influenced by TV or the outside world. There are many movie that promotes religious beliefs, there are many TV station or program that promotes religion as well and Even many religious organization such as Christian has an on-air sermons and stuff.
I dont think there should be any reason for your husband to refrained you from having a TV at home or watching movies just like any other normal person, though.... that really is not my place to judge :)

I think it depends on the kind of movioe that your are watching, there can be a very violent movies & there are also very inspirational. to me, personally, its a good influence because you get to learn a loth of things, like culture of other people, you feel feeling you've never felt before, you'll learn people's differences and many more. i think the influnce is really there, it's just a matter of choice of which kind of movie you'll watch.
