Do you think Obama will live up to your expectations?

Surely, president-elect Barack Obama will be standing in as the US president in approximately 2 weeks time. The question here is whether you people think he will live up to his promises and claims? Surely none of us want another presidency which resembles that of George W. Bush. Mr Obama is taking over the thrashes left behind by predecessors. I wonder if his inspirational speeches can really tide the country and if not the world through the global crisis that we are facing. How do you think Mr Obama will fare?

" Surely none of us want another presidency which resembles that of George W. Bush?" I can't possibly imagine what difference that would make to you in Singapore. No, inspirational speeches do not turn the tide of anything except an election, as we saw pretty clearly this round. I'm cheering for Obama, I'm routing for him, I encourage him to succeed. If he fails, we fail. No rightfull citizen should ever be wishing for a president to fail (though many seemed to with Bush). I didn't vote for him so I didn't have any expectations of him at the time. What I expect of him now is that he uphold and govern by the constitution and the principals of government laid out in it. I will aplaud him when he does so and critisize him loudly and viciously when he does not.

I am with you. I did not vote for Obama but i pray that he does suceed. He may be the best president that we have voted in but as to expectations, I did not have any because he did not say anything with substance during the campain. He told the people that he had a plan for the econemy and after being elected he put together a committee to form a plan. As for the change, he seems to be hiring Clinton people. That seems to be the same ol' same ol'.

Great point xfahctor. I was in a discussion the other day with a staunch Democrat. I brought up that very point, that I was hoping that Obama would succeed. That I wanted him to do a great job and get credit for a job well done. I have heard that repeatedly from my Republican friends. Contrast that to those that did everything they could to undermine GW Bush. Few Democrats could say that they supported him even though they disagreed with him because they wanted what was best for the country. I do believe that many Dems wanted Bush to fail and by doing so, caused our country to fail in many ways.

"The question here is whether you people think he will live up to his promises and claims?" So far he's failing that test miserable. He claimed he would reduce the budget deficit but he's already planning to increase it by another trillion with his stimulus package. He PROMISED that lobbyists would not influence him and would not find jobs in his administration, yet he's hired several. Has he lived up to my expectations? Sadly, he has. He talked a good game and will go back on the promises that got him elected as I expected. I hope he's successful, since his failures become failures for the U.S., but so far, he's only proven me right when I hoped he would prove me wrong.

I don't have expectations of him other than to serve as president. I figure he'll screw up and hope I'm wrong. Considering the entire congress and most of the senate have their heads up their --- so I can hardly expect much. Despite what some think there is nothing Obama can do without the whole of the government. I believe some have expectations that are unrealistic and what no president would be able to accomplish, even with the best of intentions.

irishidid, Congress may have their heads up where the sun don't shine, but I think that even, for some of them, they realize it's mighty dark up there...lol Even weeds scramble for some sunlight and I also thing that they will jockey for that sun. DCMerkle

cedric_a, I don't think the question, for me, is whether Obama will live up to my expectations, but rather will what he said that we can expect from him. He hasn't promised us the moon or a car in every garage. No one can afford one car for a garage...lol What he has told us to expect from him is change. He also says that the change will be hard and not to expect it right away. So, if I had to say that I did have an expectation of him, it would be that the change happens the way he says it will. I sincerely hope Mr. Obama will do well as president. While I am not a democrat, I still support whoever is in office. I think it would be foolish to think that he will be able to accomplish everything he set out in his speeches right away. Each term is only four years, and if he doesn't get re-elected, then he really won't be able to do anything long term. That's just the way it is in government.

I honestly do not know. My expectations are so high that it scares me sometimes. I know that he will have a Democratic congress and that should help. But there is so much that has to be tackled, it's mind boggling. I definitely do not want a presidency along the lines of George Bush but to say that anything would be better is trite and at this point, just plain not good enough. All we can do at is pray for the new president and ope he is up to the task we have entrusted to him. I'm doing both of those things.

I have a lot of hope and faith in President-Elect Obama. As, obviously, most of us do since we voted him into office. I really do believe that he is going to try to run an honest, responsible, administration and live up to the promises he made. Will he be able to do that? Only time will tell. I don't think he realized how bad things really have become under the Bush administration, and what is there that needs fixing (like everything). Major pressure for anyone! I have a good feeling about him as a person and as a new President. Crossing my fingers for him and for us.

I say he has a lot cut out for him. After all he inspired a bunch of people with words like "Change and Hope" without any proof. I was not one to put faith into airy words without proof. So I say proof is in the pudding. So we'll see. I still have hope that one day we will actually have a man as President like Ron Paul. And I will still follow him (Paul), because he is the one who showed me there still are people who actually care about our rights, freedoms, and people as a whole and not afraid to stand up for what he believes is constitunally correct. Until that day I just Hope for a Change. So Obama does have a lot to do to earn the support of those who are not easily swayed by words and those who took a debate or speech class who know that you can learn to speak that eloquently to insight millions like some preachers do. Plus, Obama has now the added stress of Illinois politics that are in the headlines.

Well he does seem like a reliable man. The thing is we don't really know what he would do. It's really not up to him to deal with the trash that was left behind. He is just a mere puppet. It's the leaders of the world that are predicting the fate of America. You may know them as Illuminati. So I would not blame anything on him or any of the pas presidents. It was properly well planned. Do some research on Illuminati if you don't believe me. Try youtube and stuff.

I do not think he will live up to some of the hopes I had, though I was fairly certain before that there would be a lot of things in his administration that I would not be fond of.

If Americans had any sense, they'd want Obama to be like Bush who cared more about this country than about what people in this country or other countries think. Even though Bush did not have the support of the media, Congress, or many of the American people, he took the steps necessary to protect and defend this country. I expect Obama to lead us down the road to socialism and I have every confidence that he, with the support of the Democrat led Congress, will do just that. I have confidence that he'll do his best to make it easier for mothers to kill their unborn babies, to raise taxes and put more regulations on corporate America making it harder for business to grow and thus giving government more control over our jobs, and to negotiate with terrorist organizations to our detriment, and that the media and a good share of the American people will love him for all they think he's doing for them. I think it will be years before the people realize the good that Bush did and the harm (if Obama turns out as I expect) Obama and the Democrats do to this country. Can you tell I was a Bush supporter and voted against Obama? Believe me, I pray that Obama will surprise me and be an excellent President, but I'm not expecting it.

What do you mean "surely none of us want another presidency which resembles that of George W. Bush"? Are you saying you hope we have a President who will not defend us? Are you saying we need a President who puts popularity before the safety of his country? I don't have any expectations with any President before he gets into office, because he doesn't govern alone. We will just have to wait to see.

Well I guess Mr. Obama will have to tackle lots of issues that the the outgoing president is going to leave behind his desk. I think this will be tough times for him to start with. Starting with you economy I guess Obama will need lots of policies reviewed to address solution to your ongoing economic crisis, that is also a problem of the rest of the world. Next would be his stand on world peace and order since US is considered to be the police of the world we will have to see how he will tackle many complex problems such as the Israel - Gaza Conflict, Iraq, and Afghanistan. These are but a few of the major problem of the world. I just hope he could stand against all these problems that he will be facing the next few weeks.

I don't know if Obama will live up to my expectations because I don't know for sure what my expectations ARE, if that makes any sense. This country is in such a shambles right now, some things are much worse than anyone even realized on Election Day so who knows what the next few months will bring let alone the next few years. I do know I expect Obama to do his best and to be willing to listen to the advice of others and to compromise if necessary, something I don't think we've had for the past eight years. If I didn't expect him to do his best I wouldn't have voted for him so in that way I do think he'll live up to my expectations. I won't start complaining that he's let us down right away because I know things aren't going to change overnight but if he does fail to do things differently and make what seems to be a sincere effort at improving things I'll call him on it. Obviously, I'm not going to view things the same way the conservatives will because they didn't vote for him in the first place so they don't have the same goals for the country perhaps as I do but I'll definitely call it as I see it. He has a huge job ahead of him. I like his optimism but he is human and can only do so much. I do feel that he will sincerely do his best....I hope he will anyway. Bush left him such a pile to sort thru that I do wonder if he is being overly optimistic. He could sit there and do nothing at all and still do better for the country than Bush.

I can only hope and pray for the future of this county I call home the land of the free and I can only pray that this man will stand and do what he says he will do Only God knows how bad this needs to be done I hope President Obama will do so and be our Knight in shinning armor I have no other choice at this moment to put my faith in this man intill he proves other wise and I do beleave his inspirational speeches can tide this country as long as he shows us he is doing what is says he will do. I will stand behind this man because he is the leader of this country I love so dearly I do not beleave that this man will be another Bush thank God President Obama has his work cut out for him and feel for the man to be honest I would not want to be in his place right now He will and needs the support of his fellow country men behind him and he needs to know we are there to support him

I think Obama will seem to be fulfilling his promises in his first year but after that then slowly he'll cave in to the lobbyist whims and wants. Every president seems to do that...
