is washing your face after reading in a longer time can harm your eyes?

Old folks said that i should not wash my eyes or face immediately esp.if i am reading a book or something in a longer period of time coz they say,it can destroy your eye?can this really cause eye problem?is this just a superstitious belief?

i do not know, but i know it will strain your eyes. you should rest your eyes first before washing it.
