We often hear about online theft. What are the ways in which someone can protect ourselves from online theft? Is it safe to use ebanking/ ecommerce?

According to me the first preference is don't do any online trasactions from internet cafes where many users use the system. You never know who used the system and also about the Internet Cafe owner who himself might have installed the keylogger software through which he can access your account.

I guess the first thing you can do to protect yourself is to make sure the website you use to conduct business online is reputably secure and is recommended by a whole lot of people. It would also be important to find out if the company behind the site is reputable. Also since as you said online theft is very rampant, do business online only when necessary.
