Enjoy idling at a red light with no cross traffic or pedestrians in sight?

I despise sitting at a red light with no cross traffic or pedestrians in view. It wastes time and fuel, and impacts the global warming problem. It's bad enough most of us propel just ourselves all alone in our car down the road sucking down fuel in our 100+ horsepower engines, but sitting still, wasting valuable resources? We could probably stop our dependency on oil just by finding a way to stop idling needlessly at red lights. How do you feel about sitting at a red light and watching a pedestrian walk across, then turn and walk halfway to the next intersection before the pedestrian crossing light changes? Or sitting with a dozen other cars, just sitting, one or two to a car, 100 pistons pounding away burning fuel and creating heat and accomplishing absolutely nothing, no cross traffic in sight, until the light ever-so-slowly changes to amber... then green... ?

Well, yes it can be quite annoying waiting there at the Stoplights waiting for them to change Green when no one else is in sight. Like later at night, or early in the morning especially. It would be nice if there was somehow a way a car could set off a sensor of some type to make the light change a little faster when you are the only one around. Especially if you have ever had to take a Taxi and had to pay the Extra just for sitting at lights it gets quite annoying as well. Maybe in time there will be a way to set sensors to the lights to help prevent some of this as well?

I handn't thought about the taxi issue. That would be doubly infuriating. There are sensors in many lights, but not all. It's those without sensors, in the middle of nowhere, that really annoy me. I've been known to go through red lights in these situations. Thanks!
