I want to start stockpiling things like paper towels, napkins, dishwashing liquid...It seems like I end up buying these things every other week. I also want to start stocking up on bodywash and toothpaste. I've never thought of it until now, but do those items ever really expire??

I stock up on these things. I have never had a problem with expiration dates on them. I keep mine in a cool dry and dark place. I keep my stockpile in cabinets and the temperature is maintained in the house. I think Scott toilet tissue 1000 sheets is the best bargain. Right now our local Food Lion grocery store has a sale 12 rolls for $4.99. I am going to take advantage of this sale and stock up. Normally a 12 roll package will last us 3 to 4 months with 5 of us using it. We go through quite a bit of soap. The boys love the liquid body wash type soap but it is far more expensive so I stick to buying bar soap. I don't buy any particular brand I buy what is on sale and what I have coupons for. As long as their soap smells manly they don't mind. As far as storage the soap might become brittle after long periods. I noticed that some soap my grandmother had from over 20 years ago still in the package was very brittle and crumbled apart at the touch but was still usable. It still lathered up (was not as potent as newer soap) but I lumped it up and put it into a hand soap dispensing bottle with some water. Some shampoo she had was discolored and not as potent as newer shampoo. It could still be used but would probably have to use more of it at a time. I am really not sure about toothpaste. I honestly think that if you buy these items and keep them in a proper place they will keep for a few years in the least.

For the things like paper towels and things they last forever as long as you can keep things from nesting in them and even then I think they would still be useable. I would even think that body wash and other items that you dont eat would be good for as long as you would keep them. Toothpaste has a short shelf life but I have used it after that date many times, I just dont know if it is that effective after a while. Figure out how many your family uses in a year and just keep that many on hand. It is enough to wait for a sale to come a long and stock up then.

I never pay attention to expiration dates on toothpaste or things like that. Of course, you wouldn't want to keep them for like 20 years, but they should keep for a good long time. I don't think dishwashing liquid has an expiration date, does it? And paper goods will keep as long as they're dry and away from insects.

I can make toothpaste last about a year, dishwashing liquid last about half a year, but toilet paper, that's another story. Seems like a roll only lasts 3-4 days. But the Scott tissues do last longer per roll than most others. As far as when toothpaste expires, I can't really say. But I'm sure it does, since it's a consumption item that people might ingest by accident.

good question. you should contact the companies to see how long the shelf life is their products. i imagine there is stuff to make is last a long time, but how long? too bad the dont carry an expirey date too.

I buy all my grocery items once in a month. I have never tried to stock pile them but the items you are tying to stock pile like paper towels and napkins would never expire unless you store them in a suitable place. Other items like body wash, toothpaste and dishwashing liquid will expire as they have expiry dates mentioned on them.

As long as you keep these items in a dry spot, there should be no worry about your stockpiling going bad. You should have no problems there.

I think you could safely store those items for a year or maybe two. Going to Costco is usually something I do and can buy and stock up on items from there. I like to go fairly often and get items that I can save for awhile. Sometimes you end up with some really good bargains from there. It is one of my favorite stores.

I am not sure if they actually expire but I am sure that you can use them for some time after they have reached there prime what ever that may be. My mother inlaw stocked up on stuff for Y2K lol. And I am happy to say we have finally used all the soap and body wash she bought. That was 9 years ago and it was ok. Maybe a little sun bleached but it worked just fine. So I have to say it may not actually expire it just may not be as fresh as you would want. I need to do that as well. We have been living on our stores for the last 3 months with christmas and all. Good luck and happy mylotting.
