Hi all! With the rise of environment issues and their consequences, more and more people are starting to watch what their actions do to the environment, and some are already doing steps to help reduce the negative impact of mankind on the environment. in my case, i can only do small steps, but i believe that this can still help because a small step can go a long way. i switched from regular/premium unleaded petrol to E10 petrol. if available, i would switch to higher ethanol fuels. i am also cutting on the times i use my car and use public transport when necessary. when i need to use my car, i make sure that i drive during off-peak hours since the car would be running in less time and with less chances of the engine idling. i also reuse plastic bags and other stuff (my old printer's cover is being used right now as a small trash can. hehe). i also shred useless documents and use them in my compost heap, along with my leftovers after every meal. i also dispose of batteries properly and send off plastic containers and other recyclable materials to recycling companies. although small, these simple actions help reduce the impact of my activities on the environment. what about you guys? what do you do to help save the environment?

You are so right, if every one of us does small things to help we will have an impact. I too recycle. Luckily we have a recycling room in the Condo building where I live so it is easy to dispose properly of paper, cans, plastic and glass. I also walk wherever I can walk to. I try not to waste any food and I try to recycle my obsolete computer hardware in a responsible fashion.

If we all do small steps then collectively we will make a huge difference. It sounds like you are already doing the right thing with your car, reducing your journeys and driving more efficiently by driving outside of the rush hour. We have put a lot of effort into insulating our home to reduce our heating, this not only helps with reducing our CO2 it also saves us money. We have put extra insulation in our loft and will son be having a new condensing gas boiler fitted. I'm also interested in the idea of making my own small wind turbine, mostly for the fun and educational aspect of it www.microgreen.co.uk and www.thebackshed.com are good places for ideas of hobby type projects. We also pay a lot of attention to our food shopping. We try to buy local produce where possible but you need to be carefull of buying produce that may have been grown in a heated greenhouse. We also eat less meat, but when we do we tend to go for better quality and organic - it's healther and tastes nicer! It's great to hear that other people are doing their bit!
