Cruisers - has this ever happened to you?

My husband and I took our first cruise last month. We were fine onboard the ship for 5 days but when we got back on land, that's when the seasickness and vertigo kicked in. My husband was actually nauseous and vomiting and we both had vertigo for about 5 days after the cruise. It was hard to focus and work and we were dizzy and lightheaded all day. The only times it felt better for me was when I was laying down or sleeping. Has anyone ever heard of after-cruising vertigo? Everyone I spoke to said they never had that experience after a cruise.

The last time we went on a cruise we got rid of our jet-lag very quickly. We got of a plane and boarded the ship almost immediately. We didn't experience any of the symptoms you mention though. Could it be due to lots of sun, cocktails and maybe sea-food? Hopefully you should be OK in a few days and be ready for your next cruise vacation soon.

Well, we didn't have many cocktails and it wasn't particularly sunny the whole time. We had a day of rainy, overcast weather and a storm one night while we slept. The rest of the days were on and off sun and clouds. I did have some seafood but I didn't get sick from it on the ship. I am not sure what it was but it seems like no one else has experienced this problem!

When you have been cruising for five days perhaps you and your husband got so used to the wave action that when it ended it was like you were still on the cruise. It is possible that you both might have picked up a bug of some sort. I have never heard of after cruise vertigo and think it sounds like a terrible thing to suffer. I sailed from Sumatra to Malaysia and ate a salad at the port. I was sick and ill for the next week. I had a high temperature and was really sick. Good luck on and just after future cruises.

I've been on a few cruises, but I never experienced nausea after returning to land. None of the friends I cruised with mentioned anything like that, either. The only thing I had to deal with for about a week was "sea legs," where my legs and body feel like they're wobbling even when I'm standing still.

Interesting. That's what everyone says! No one has seemed to experience the vertigo that we had after the cruise. We did not have sea legs, as you describe. It was more like dizziness and being off-balance and not being able to focus on anything.

That is funny. Perhaps both of you are meant for life-time cruisers. I think you can go for a longer cruise and see if you experience the same thing after that trip. I guess both of you have caught some bugs, and it is not really seasickness
