I use skype as my phone and I use yahoo as my messanger. I love skype and how you can talk to any one you want that uses it for free. No Charge. I also for 12 dollars a month get to have a local phone number that my local friends and family can use to reach me. It goes right thru my computer and I can choose to answer it or not but what the number is that comes up. I love both of them and would be lost with out them both.

im using ym and facebook, seldom for skype.
I do have my multiply.com, friendster, mylot...hi5...
I prefer facebook because i can see their profile...
and i can still know what happen to d person by reading their comments one another from my own profile...
I can see if they have new pics, even i dont open their profile.
Its nice... its better than friendster and myspace and hi5.

I used to use Trillian before, its good when running momre than one im program, but doesn't have all the features as the original messengers.
For example, you can't use webcam or play games on trillian as you can on yahoo. That's why I stopped using trillian

Trillian is a good program for connecting to all the various services at the same time. I've seen the Trillian Astra beta, which adds services like Skype's IM protocol and others, and it should be even more amazing than Trillian.
Working IT at a company and doing odd-jobs for people means it has to be easy to get in contact, so being available by any and all means is a must.
Each of the different services have their ups and downs, I can't really say there is one that stands out above all the others. ICQ/Jabber is more open source, but not as popular. AIM is by far the most popular. MSN has a lot of useful features the others lack. Skype is the standard for audio and video, and is starting to add a bunch of useful features, and is quickly becoming closer to becoming my favorite.
