It's in the 20's in Missouri and our furnace went out this morning. Found a heating and cooling service that will send someone out to repair the furnace within the next 3 hours. It's 60 in the house so I had to put on a coat just to keep my old bones warm. Was lucky to find service that quick although by the time someone gets here I could be a popsickle. By Thursday it's suppose to be below zero so guess life could be worse. Don't you hate it when this happens?

hello carol i am so sorry that your heater went out like that. my boss' heater wasn't working on the downstairs part of their house this morning either. lol it is supposed to be in the 40's here this afternoon, but they are calling for snow/sleet mix late tonight here for the Nashville area. there might not be any school tomorrow around here and if that's the case, i won't be working again tomorrow either. grrr. take care and keep warm. have a beautiful afternoon.

How funny. Looks like I was responding to your discussion and you were responding to mine at the same time. The furnace will be repaired today to the tune of $600 plus. We could replace it but that would be 2 thousand. We decided to wait and see if it would make it another couple of years. Thanks for responding.

Layer up, bundle up and keep warm. It always seems to happen that way. The air conditioner goes out when it's 110 degrees outside and the furnace goes out on the coldest day of the year. Glad you got hold of a repair service so quickly.

I feel for you. I am in Missouri as well and don't like the temperatures we are having today. Hope they get there soon so you don't turn to a popsicle. My brother's went out a few weeks back when we had a cold spell. They got it fixed quickly and for under $1500.

The furnace was fixed the same day. We were lucky to find a company who had the time and who could come 3 hrs. after I made the initial call. The choices were to repair, $688, or replace, $2,000. We chose to repair at this time. Our weather is going to be really cold tomorrow morning so I will stay home and keep warm. Thanks for responding.

Aww, I'm so sorry, Carolbee, but it's been in the 80's here in Southern Cal. All I can say is that I hope you get the heater fixed pronto. You need to stay warm, my friend.

Lucky you. Southern California. My favorite place to visit. I do love the warm weather. Our furnace was fixed the same day I wrote the discussion and a good thing since it's 16 below zero here today. Thanks for responding and enjoy the sun.

60 isn't that bad, actually. I keep the thermostat set at 60 round the clock but I'll probably be boosting it up to 65 by tomorrow being it's supposed to drop even more outside. Having the furnace go out is really bad, though, and at a very bad time. Hope it's fixed now.

The furnace was fixed the same morning it went out. We were lucky to find a company who could squeeze us in and get the job done. I keep the thermostat set at 66 all winter unless it gets below zero. Keep warm and thanks for responding.

It is very cold here in Indiana also. We are to get some freezing temperatures tonight too. I hope you got your furnace fixed now. We have had to have our furnace services every year for the last three years. Something is always wrong with it but it is 10 years old too.

Our furnace is fixed so it's comfy in the house. Furnaces like to go out when it gets really cold and it's so inconvenient. We don't have the artic weather here yet but later today is suppose to get extremely cold. Like to the tune of 10 to 20 below zero. Right now it's not bad out. Thanks for responding.

The furnace was fixed by 3 this afternoon. It was cold in here but not to the point I was frozen. I wore a coat and had a heating pad on my feet. This little repair was $688.00 and we were so lucky to get it fixed today. Thanks for responding.

Sounds like you really have winter going on there. I hate the windchill when it drops below zero. Can freeze your nose off. It's after 3 in the afternoon and we finally have heat. It's in the 20's right now but we were without heat since very early this morning. Our siding did it's jo9b and kept alot of the heat in but still was cold in the lower part of the house. It was a 3 hour job and costly but we had to get it fixed. Thanks for responding.

Well, I hope you stay warm and it gets fixed by Thursday!! Maybe you could send some of the cool air west - it is in the 80's here in CA and nearly a week now of Santa Ana winds at around 85mph - 24/7! Hot and dry!! Every tree in town is nearly to the ground! And the dust is out of hand!

Yep, our furnace is fixed. I don't envy your high winds. I love the warm weather or even hot but not winds. 85 mph is really high. Stay safe and thanks for responding.

I understand your problem with this. Luckilky i haven't had to go thru it in some time. When I was living in NY it seems liked most of the time are power would go out in the mid of winter. And are pilit light on the finance would go out because it's electric. So we would be stuck in winter without any heat of lights or anything to even try to keep are minds off of the cold. I can remember one time that we were out of power for three days. Luckily we had a wood stove and a propane stove and that's how we kept warm. Although you really have to be careful because of the flumes. Now I live in nice South Carolina and I love it. It's sunny and shiny and the lows are about 40's and usually thru out the winter I can wear shorts and light sweaters. but I do feel your pain. I hope it's fixed soon.

New York is alot colder than the area where we live. We have a gas furnace and as soon as something doesn't sound right or is not working, I don't mess around. I have no sense of smell and wouldn't have a clue if there was a gas leak. Sounds nice in your area. Thanks for responding.

Hi carolbee, Hope you are a bit warmer now and yes I do hate it when that happens and only happens when it is very cold. It is cold here too and we are having some nasty weather here too. Hugs. Tamara

The nasty weather hasn't happened here yet. Later today is suppose to flurry and rain. Will be a mess. I am keeping warm with a heating pad on my feet and a coat on since it's warmer in the computer room upstairs. Then the guy gets here and didn't have the parts. This happens to us all the time. So there is time lost in getting the parts here and we are charged for it. Oh well we need heat tonight. The day will get better. Thanks for responding.

Hey carol! I have the same problem here where I live! The boiler for my apartment seems to always break down when it is the coldest day and it takes forever for them to get it fixed! I have no control over it either since I live in an apartment. We don't even have the same boilers for the whole complex! So there are different boilers for different areas and the one I live in breaks down the most! I complained directly to the manager, but since he doesn't even live here I'm not sure that he will really do anything about it! I am worried because we are also expecting temperatures to be around zero with wind chills making it feel way below by the end of the week!

I hope you are able to keep your boiler running without any problems this week. It's going to be really cold all over. Our furnace is fixed and we were lucky to get it fixed today. Tonight the cold weather should move in and by Thursday is suppose to be 20 below zero windchill factor. Our pets would have to be taken to one of our kids and my husband and I would have gone too. The it's time to worry about the pipes freezing. We are ok now and am I relieved. Thanks for responding. Stay warm, carolbee

Awww you are so sweet. We have heat now and should be good for the rest of this winter. Repairman was here around noon and finished up around 3:00. I was cold this morning. I was concerned about tomorrow morning since it's suppose to be around 15 degrees. Thanks for responding.

Yes, I really hate it when things like that happens. I keep an electric heater around "just in case," and have plenty of blankets, etc. If you can do some baking, usually the heat from an oven will help warm the kitchen, anyway. Shut the door or hang a blanket over it if you can, to keep the one room warmer.

Only have a heating pad and can't find it. Guess I wasn't ready for any emergency. Our oven hasn't been turned on in a very long time and am afraid to turn it on now. It's gas, I am home alone and have no sense of smell. This is what I get for not cooking in the oven for the last few years. I do have a coat on so that is helping. Thanks for responding.

I did make hot chocolate and heated it exceptionally long so the cup would stay warm/hot for awhile. It worked and does keep my fingers warm. Haven't figured out how to type with gloves on...lol Thanks for responding.

Thanks, tyc. I never hold my breath when this sort of thing happen. I am a blonde female so repair people like to try to sell me anything they can and think I will buy..lol Bet we need a new furnace and I hate making that decision alone. My husband is at work so will call him before any final decision is made. I heated a cup in the microwave to keep my hands warm. Well drank the hot chocolate first! Thanks for responding.

Hope we don't need a new furnace but wouldn't be surprised. Like how would I know if we really need one? My husband is at work but he knows as much about the furnace as I do which is nothing. Windchill is in the teens this morning and no sun. Thanks for responding.

I am sorry to hear that your furnace went out this morning. I hope that the temperature in your house does not go down much more before the repair man gets there. I too live in Missouri. It is 31 here right now and it is supposed to get up to around 43. Tonight is supposed to get down to 18 though. I have electric heat and the baseboard heater in my bedroom is starting to go out. Sometimes it works fine and other times it does not. I have a little heater I can plug in for times when it is acting up at least.
