Would You Consider Eye Laser Surgery

I am suppose to wear glasses to drive and watch t.v.
Do you wear glasses?
If so, how do you feel about it?
I don't mind wearing the glasses. It is nice to be able to read street signs, before I get to them, when I am going somewhere I haven't been before.
I am near sighted, so the glasses really help for this, a lot!
I am glad I have them.
When I am wearing my glasses other times, I often hear myself saying "Oh wait, I have to take my glasses off so I can see". Lol
What I don't like about having to wear glasses s that there are time when I am all the way out to the car, the place is all locked and often my hands are full, with a bag, keys and my dog and I remember I forgot my glasses.
Sometimes I just go and forget it but if it is sunny out I will go back to get them for the sunglasses feature.
Sometimes, I have them sitting on my head. I don't know how many times that they have fell off my head, onto concrete, linoleum and other surface but it has been lots.
I have scratched the sunglasses part and the eye glasses place quoted me $50 to fix them. Ouch!
You'd think I would of learned after the first time I had to take the glasses in to have the scratches taken out.
Sometimes I just leave the glasses in the car so I wont forget them at my friends when I leave, after taking them off once I am there and setting them down, in a place I think I wont forget..
This has resulted in getting to the car and stomping on them because they fell off the console onto the drivers side floor of the car.
At this point I may as well just get another set of glasses but they are not inexpensive, by any means.
I have often thought about getting eye laser surgery.
My eye sight is not super bad but are getting worse it seems.
I am not that old really and think of the risks.
Would you ever consider eye laser surgery? What concerns do you factor in?
My Mom had eye surgery once, year and years ago. The surgeon spilled some strong solution into her eyes and nearly blinded her, for life.
What can go wrong with laser surgery?
Is it worth it? What if something goes wrong and my eyes wind up worse?
On the other hand, it could be the best thing I have ever done.
Perhaps i should wait another ten to fifteen years in case something screws up.
Considering the cost of eye glasses, especially how i go through them, compared to the cost of laser surgery, I think it is a no brainer if cost is a factor.
I would not get contact lenses.
What do you think of having laser surgery?

I have to wear contacts at all times or I won't be able to see a thing. I have considered having surgery to help correct my problems but the doctor said I would have to wait till my eyes started leveling out more. I have been waiting for six years and I go once a year for my check up but I am still not to the point of being able to have it done yet. I can't wait till I am able to so that hopefully I will be able to see much better and not have so many problems with my eyes. The prices have also gotten much better so it is becoming much more affordable that it used to be. My brother and my grandmother have both had similar surgeries on their eyes and have been very impressed with the results. My brother had vision as bad as mine and now he is able to not wear any contacts or glasses. I can only hope that my day without contacts will come very soon.

Hi alyssakenzie, thank you for your hopeful response.
Gives me something to ponder, that is for sure.
I am so happy for your brother.
That is great to read and I hope that you too can have the surgery done soon as well so you may be able to use your eyes, perfectly without having to wear contacts anymore.
Thank you very much for your response!

I don't have problems with my eyes that I feel are worth the cost of laser surgery. I only wear very weak glasses for reading online and books, and only sometimes, because my eyes get tired. However, if I did have worse problems that were cause for me to wear glasses more often, I would consider the lasik surgery if it would mean that I didn't have to wear glasses. My sister, who has astigmatism, just had a consultation for lasik. The doctor told her the surgery would improve her sight, but she still would have to wear glasses. Why pay all that money if she will still need the glasses? My suggestion is to have a consultation, to see what benefits the surgery would have for you personally, and then consider from there.

Hi drknlvly; Thank you kindly for you insight :D
I agree that your eyes can get worse by wearing glasses too much, as your eyes can become far too dependent on eye glasses.
Exactly, why get the Lasik surgery if eye glasses would still be needed?
A consultation is a good idea.
Thank you for your response.

I have worn eyeglasses since I was in the 4th grade. I am 22 now, but that is a while. And my prescription only gets worse every year. So I have thought about , but It is very expensive and I can't afford it. My insurance does not ever it and I am not sure I am really willing to give up my glasses. I mean I have worn them for so long I feel like they are part of what makes me beautiful. I feel like without them I might be lost. I know it sounds weird but I do. I also do not consider contacts because the cost alone in a year would buy my three new pairs of glasses. So I think fore now I will stay with my four eyes.

Hi MrsWickham1; Thank you for your response. I think that if your eyes are getting worse annually, you may very well become lost without your eye glasses.
I am not sure where you are located but I found that here in Canada, the cost of Lasik surgery would be far more worth it, since each time I have to get a new pair of glasses, due to loosing them or crunching them, it cost me well over $400.
My medical doesn't cover them or the surgery either.
I am at wits end. Not sure what to do. I suppose I can be moe careful with my glasses but I have been trying that, to no avail, so it seems.
Perhaps i should stick to my four eyes as well and just become extra extra careful.
thanks again for your response.

Not every can have the Lasik laser eye surgery. Of those who can most it works really well for like my brother in law. A few it doesn't work so well for. For them the problem is that it is irreversible.
There is another surgery in which they implant a lens correcting your existing lens and it is reversible. So it might be something for you to look at as an option as well.

Hi, i wear glasses and am far sighted (?) as in i can see close things, but far away things are blurry.
I've been wearing glasses for like 9 years now, and have gotten very used to it. three years ago, i've also gotten contacts and i now often wear it to work or when i'm going out.
I don't think i would consider eye laser surgery, as it might make it worse, and i don't want to risk any other problems that it may cause. Right now my degree is pretty stable, so its alright, and it isn't causing major discomfort in my life. so i'll just stick with glasses and contacts :)

Hi xnekox; Thank you for your response.
Your conclusion makes sense to me!
I am still deciding on what to do. Eye glasses are costing me a fortune because I am far too careless, or rather active to have to keep an eye out for them :D
Thanks again for your response.

If I could afford it, I would definitely have Lasik eye surgery. I'm a good candidate for it, it is just the money thing. I've known more than a dozen people who have had it, and all have been pleased. Only one of them had to go back for a second procedure. His eyes had a particular problem that didn't make the first go of Lasik permanent.

I wear glasses and it does bug me a bit. Not because I don't like the look of them, I look fine in glasses, but I forget to wear them alot. I don't waer them around the house and I don't always wear them on nights out, and sometimes I forget to wear them to work. I am short sighted as well which means I can't see things at a distance so walking to work, and to friends and to the pub are times when I really need them, I just don't always remember.
So for me laser eye surgery would be good. BUT I would never go through with it, it's a relatively new procedure and the way they do it is a bit grim. I've not even considered contacts so laser eye surgery would be a step too far.

I would not have the surgery. My SO's Mom has laser eye surgery like six times. And she still has to wear glasses. So, that is why I would not have the surgery if I was told I needed it. Which I do not have glasses right now. But I would never have this kind of surgery.

I suppose I would consider laser eye surgery as I have a very tiny glitch in my right eye, things become slightly unclear at long distance. I just don't have the money for this though and it is so expensive. I don't wear glasses or anything like that and I'm happy about this. I sometimes worry about laser treatment though! What if things go wrong? That's quite a worrying case regarding your mom! A friend of mine had laser eye surgery and he didn't think that it went that well. I guess if I do get it done I'm going to have to do a lot of research. Andrew

I wear glasses for everthing also. The first thing that I do after waking up is feel for my glasses. I have worn contacts from time to time and I like them. However I do not wear them as much as I use to since I was able to get my glasses smaller and the lens are not so thick now (they are still thick but they are much smaller)
If I had the funds for the laser surgery I would definitely go tomorrow as soon as it goes down enough to where I can afford it I would do it and would not think twice.

I dont wear glasses much. I only wear glasses when I need to read small letters. I wouldnt get eye laser surgery. I'm afraid of lasers like it could permanently remove my eyesight. And the fact that eye laser surgery is very lostly. Well I could get eye surgery if it was my last ultimatum. I would do anything to get my eyesight back if it were about to dim away.

I have considered it many times. I have both glasses and contacts and my glasses bother me at times when they are hanging on the brim of my nose and ears. But I know quite a few people who have done laser surgery and they all seem to be doing well with it. But the reason why I haven't gone as far as getting it is, surgery is still surgery (scary!), the money, and my contacts and glasses haven't made it unlivable to have them. But I say you should go for it! I will once I get the courage and money. Good luck.

I am definantly thinking about getting eye surgery. I wear contacts but I absolutly hate them, I am very forgetful so sometimes i forget to take them out and by morning my eyes are all red and i cant go outside because the sun burns my eyes really bad. My eyes are also very dry so I constantly put eyedrops in which is really annoying.

I wear glasses, and I will never wear contacts. I'm just to scared. I'm afarid that I may lose my vision or something can go terribly wrong. I just think that being able to see is such a precious gift, I would not want to do anything to damage or potentially lose my sight. I think I'll just stick with my glasses.

I don't wear glasses. I think i may have to later in the future due to eye injuries i have had. I wouldn't consider laser surgery though. I just think i would use the glasses. Thats how i feel now though. It could change.

I won't bother with this now but I wish that I could have had it done years ago. I believe that they do one eye at a time and let thet eye recover before they do the next one. This must be as a precaution. Talk to your doctor and get someone who has been recommended by your docter. This may allay your fears. Maybe I wouldmstill get it done if I had the money. My insurance doesn't cover this at all. I wear glasses that turn into sun glasses in the sun. I have forgotton the name! Oh, I think it is called transional. So justy one pair is needed. Good lucj

Well I don't have any problems so far with my eyesight. But incase that I'll be having in the future, why not? If it will heal my eye problems then I'll definitely try it. I don't mind about the cost if it's expensive as long as it can cure me and my illness. How sure is an eye laser surgery in healing eye problems?

Personally I think you are in a fortunate position that you can go out without even realising that you do not have you glasses with you and can more afford to wait for any more advancements in the surgery with the realitively good eyesight that you have.
I am very shortsighted and still I weigh up the pros and cons of any surgery on my eyes, my eyesight I believe is still top of my list of "things I would not want to ever lose" regardless of the fact that my eyesight is relatively poor.
I do consider myself fortunate that I am not blind and at least have some eyesight that can be corrected with lenses and glasses.
My friend recently travelled to India to have his eyes done and he found it very sucessfull (apart from a recent lens scratch to the eye resulted in him waking up with no sight in that eye before it eventually came back throughout the day)

I have worn glasses for years...over 40. I have tried contacts and they were OK until I need bi-focals. I tried the bifocal contacts and that was a mess. Took time to focus between reading and looking at a distance.
I agree, if money was no issue, I would have Lasik surgey in a heartbeat. However I just can't justify the $$$ for cosmetic reasons. (Insurance doesn't pay)
