Does a 15 minute nap refresh you ?!

Sometimes when I get drowsy in the day-time, I can doze off and take a 10-15 minute nap that totally refreshes me and I'm fine afterward. This comes from the days when I would go to school full-time and work full-time and I had to grab sleep whenever possible. My boyfriend thinks that this is really weird that I can be fine after about 15 minutes (his naps last an hour or longer).
Is this really a strange thing, or are some of you guys able to do this as well?
Is 15 minutes enough, or do you need and hour or more?

I cannot sleep whenever i want.My sleep routine is set in such a manner that even if i want i cannot sleep at odd hours.I get to sleep only during night at my time around 10.30 pm.I cannot sleep on different beds.Even if i go somewhere it takes me day or two to adjust myself to sleep in that place.

Now, when I sleep at night-time, I do have some problems with sleeping in a different bed for a day or two. I'm used to sleeping on my bed! Sure, my mattresses are worn out and could use replacing, but I am comfortable so what would be the point of that? I figure as long as I'm comfortable and can sleep OK, then there is no reason to replace the mattresses until I can't sleep.

Okay I would love to be like you. If I even try to sleep for less than an hour when I nap, I wake up feeling even worse than before. Most times it takes me 30 minutes just to fall alseep. If I could nap for 15 minutes and feel refreshed I would be great, I can't tell you how much I would be able to get done. I don't think that you are strange but I will say that I don't know anyone like you, that just means your unique!

Just to clarify, I am just talking about a small nap in the daytime. In no way does this replace my night-time sleep. At night when I get sleepy, I have to go to bed. A quick nap just won't cover it. However, if I feel tired in the day, I can take a quick nap and be ok.
For example: My boyfriend and I went to a shop for him to look around for some things. I sat down on a futon there in the shop and dozed off 5-10 minutes while he looked around. I was awake again before he even realized I had dozed off and I felt fine.

I wish! When I decided to take a short snooze, I usually don't wake up until one or two hours later! I'm confused, bewildered, and can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't make the "short snooze" work out. It frustrates me because I would *love* to nod off for a few without a chunk of my day being eaten.

I used to be this way too. When I was working and going to school, every week there was a stretch where I didn't have the time to sleep for about 2 - 2.5 days. I guess my body adjusted (although it was hard!).

Yes.
In fact, from the scientific research it is said that 5 minutes of quality naps would refreshen you up more than half an hour nap. While you have too long nap you would tend to feel more tired when you woke up. I am so sorry that I didn't remember the source, but I remember that I have read that once.
LOL.

OK, 5 minutes seems just too short. I have had a few that were that short, but for the most part 10 minutes is a good time for me.

The 15 minute power nap sure works for me! I don't sleep enough because I am always up very, very early and sometimes I do get tired during the day but a little nap will almost always recharge the batteries!

as strange as it is, i do feel a little more refreshed after napping for about 20-30 mins. i feel like i can go a few more hours without feeling sleepy. however, after about 3-4 hours, i get that sleepy feeling again. when i do nap for about an hour or 2 though, i feel a lot better.
i think the amount of naptime varies for each person. i'm fine with napping for 20 minutes and waking up fine, but i also feel a lot better after napping an hour or two. i suggest that you try napping for an hour, and see how you feel. if you wake up feeling tired and lazy, then maybe stick to the 15min. naps :)

A short nap during the day certainly does help to refresh you, Since I started happing during the afternoons I feel a great deal more alert, donĀ“t sleep any more than about 20 minutes or you will start to feel drowsey when you wake. Take care and good luck my friend

hi friend, this is what you call a power nap. having a nap more than 30 minutes doesn't help and makes you feel bad and lazy. so 15 minutes power nap helps a lot ot refresh and condition you to the work ahead of you. I have experienced this too and it helped me a lot to give me energy to the things that i am supposed to do. thanks for sharing and happy mylotting!!!

Hi there,
Basically a 15 minute nap is not enough for me, but while am in between work feels very drowsy the this 15 minutes could do the magic. I am a medical transcriptionist and my job demands me to work in night shifts also and this is the time when this 15-Minute sleep comes handy. Usually, by midnight, I will get exhausted and if I take a short nap in between then I will be able to perform much better, but definitely what i prefer is sleeping for hours, cause brain needs rest and one can provide it fully only if her/she is for more than two hours.

It takes me 15 minutes to get comfortable and relaxed so yea! And a powernap is not very good! I usually feel tired and less refreshed after it! Just like i feel when i have to get up dat 7.00!

I find that if I take a really short nap sometimes it does refresh me. Sometimes I have laid in bed with my little one and took a long nap and those long naps always make me feel worse. But a short power nap makes me feel energized.

No, It gives me the biggest headache. If I am going to lay down and take a nap I need to sleep till I wake up. I feel so heavy and groggy after only 15 minutes. I would just rather stay sleepy all day.

Oh my god. I wish a 15 minutes snap could do something for me. Not even a 1 hour rest does a thing! I need more than 8 hours sleep a day to feel kinda rested. And this is a real problem.

A nap in a day is very helpful. Some people can have energy for a rest of 15 minutes, but some people don't.Every one is different. So the right nap time is helpful for you.But most people need a bit nap.So finding the right time is useful.
