you earn by posting discussions and responding to discussions - after you get to 500 by your name you can copy and paste...and then you can also post photos in discussions. Yes mylot actually pays - i find it doesnt take long if you are active (posting 4-5 lines per response of quality content). I've been paid via paypal everytime i've been paid.
