Both my twin sister and I sucked on pacifiers until we were about 8 years old. Only at home, not at school or in public. To us it was completely normal, and we didn't realize it was no longer appropriate. A friend of our mothers saw us with soothers, and spoke to my mother about it and said we should have them taken away. It took a while, but she managed to get us to kick the habit. Or parents were always figting and did end up divorcing, so I suspect the fact that we didn't naturally give them up was because we needed comfort.

When a seven year old still needs to suck on a soother there's issues somewhere. Not only that but it's a wonder the kid doesn't have extremely crocked teeth. Unreal.
