hi all!
we all know that hard disk drives are an important part of any computer system. without it, we won't be able to store data in the computer.
there have been several brands and capacities (sizes) of hard disk drives, depending on the price.
but, all of them have a "great equaliser"... that is... when they start to fail. most hard disks are said to last only 3 years, but i've seen some hard disks working properly for more than 5 years.
in my case, my hard disk is already reaching its 4th year (and a second hard disk is already 6 years old!), and i might start saving up for a new hard disk because i'm kinda afraid that when it fails, all my data would be wiped out.
how about you? how old is your oldest hard drive?
thanks and happy mylotting!

what hard disk are we talking bout in here, for PC or for laptop ?
if for PC, my harddisk age is 8 years old lol..yeah, its old lol because i always treat the harddisk right, clean it if its dusty, i rarely format it to keep the drive sectors good lol..
as for my laptop harddisk, hmm...i have it since 2005, so its probably 3 years old..i think the pc harddisk is better than the laptop harddisk, but i dunno why is that happen, i only talk like this based on my experiences..

My hard disk is just two years old and i hope that it does not fail in the near future since i have not saved anything to buy in a new hard disk and i hope that none of my computer parts fail since i have nothing left with me to buy the new accesories..anyway dont worry its the user capacity that makes a hard disk work for many years and let it to die soon..i will have it safely and hope it continues for more years than the normal...

My present hard drive on my desktop is 120GB 7200 RPM. It was bought last August 2007 so it's a year and a half old. It still performs well, but I still have my old SeaGate 40BG Barracuda. I bought this when I was still in college last August 2002. So it's five and a half years ago. I didn't used it as my slave disk but rather a back up. I stored it on my cabinet.

My laptop's hard drive is one year old.. The oldest I had lasted for 5 years or more. We just have it reformatted when something's wrong with it like getting infected with virus. It's still good.

3 months ago ,I refreshed my computer,so it's 3months old^^
The hard drive in my retired computer has been 5 years lod, my father brings it to me for my graduation(in chinese,we call it"gaokao"). I like it and enjoy for 5 years until now it's hard to run the new OS and softwares. And I moved all the data from my old hard drive to the new one.
As you know it's dangerous to keep the data in the disk more than 3years old, always taking a backup for your important files is recommended.
