I would like to know which are the places of interest that I should not miss during a one week stay in Newcastle in summer. I will be meeting some friends in UK who live in that area. I am sure that they will provide a full itininerary with lots of interesting places to visit. About ten years ago I have visited Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda besides Edinburgh. I hope that I will be able to visit Edinburgh agian this time. I am thinking about visiting York too. What are your suggestions?

Hi ya ronaldinu What I suggest is that you come down, way down, further South!! LOL . Although, as you know, I live in the South West of England, I have never been to Newcastle, probably because it is so far away from me. I bet there are alot of people from Newcastle who have never been to my neck of the woods either. They are a really friendly bunch up there though so you will be in good hands as I am sure you are aware! I have been to Edinburgh though for a wedding and I thoght the city was very beautiful even though it comes with it's problems like any big city!! Hope you have a good trip and don't forget to send me a postcard!!

Hi Humbug. I found flights at bargain prices with easy jet from malta to newcastle. I have two friends there so that's why we are going there this summer. My wife wants to visit Edinburgh and as we are going to be close there we will have at least a one day visit there. Besideds Edinburgh we might visit leeds for a dog show. I really wish that we could visit the south but I think it is too much travelling from north to south of England. One of the boss's rules was cut down on travelling time. But I have not found the magic wand yet that can take me to several places at onec without travelling. Last time I visited Kent besides newcastle. I would like to visit London. (Yep I have never went there) I would like to visit a lot of places in the south of UK.

There is a dog show in the first week of August in your area. I was hoping to be there since some collie friends are going to be there.....

The Boss comes from Newcastle. We live in the south of England now. Nuff said! LOL. However, I would contact the tourist authority. There is quite a bit to see. The Tyne Bridge, the Castle is exceptional, especially it's Keep. There is a very good children's Museum too. There are also parks. Go south of the river to Gateshead and take a ride on the Metro train. It doesn't take long on the train to get to Edinburgh and of course there's stacks of things to see and do there. Also, take a drive up the Northumbria coast if you can. Taking in Morpeth and Bamburgh Castle. You will probably notice that on Saturday the whole city turns out in Black and white football shirts. It's a religion there! Have a good holiday.

Hi ronald, I am not familiar with those parts of England as I live a lot further away from them, but both places are steeped in history so am sure someone will be able to tell you where to go and what to see...littleowl

Interestingly enough, when you have a few knowledgeable friends in the area of interest, it makes life easier for you. They will tailor the itinerary to suit your taste. With regards to New York Visit, your itinerary should be a tour around MANNATTAN ISLAND from the PIER- THE CIRCLE LINE which encompasses the sights of interest such as - THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT, RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL, THE BRONX ZOO, THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING . Here again, you would need a' tour guide ' to ease your anxiety. Good Luck and enjoy your anticipated stay.

when it comes to places of interest in Newcastle you may think that the city's exports like tv shows, magazines etc all shed some light on what the city has to offer, but Newcastle is much more interesting than that. Firstly there's the city's historic offerings, remnants of its rich past which still stand today. Within Newcastle itself you can go and explore Castle (Garth), the remains of the 'new castle' that gave the city its name. The Keep has three floors for you to explore linked by a succession of staircases that take you to rooms such as the Gallery, King's Chambers, Queen's Chambers, Great Hall and dungeon. This can be a VERY LONG post so ill keep it short. Other places of interest include Gateshead and the Angel of North, Hexam Abbey, Hadrian's Wall, Alnwick Castle and close to Newcastle are the towns of Banmburgh and Jarrow to name a few
