When I was 19, my father had breast cancer and had to have a double mastectomy (I think I spelled that wrong). I learned that, when a father has breast cancer, their daughters have a 20% greater risk of contracting this disease. When I was 32, my mother had breast cancer and was able to resolve hers with a lumpectomy (I think I spelled that wrong, too) and radiation. Now I'm wondering if my odds are greater. My mother also had cancer when I was 11 (ovarian and cervical) and it was resolved with organ removal. I have myself screened, plus I do self-checks to be sure I'm healthy.
