If you do not like to keep the same kind of fish in your tank then get different strains (breeds) of goldfish such as black moors, lion heads orandas etc. Goldfish should be in cooler water than tropical fish need. plus they are a fish that produces lots of waste and needs a good filtration system in their tank. also goldfish should have at least 20 gallons of water per fish for the fancy ones and about 100 gallons per fish for the single tailed ones. Too many people think that their goldfish die of old age at 6 months or a year when in fact they can live to be 12 to 20 years for the fancy ones and up to 35 for the pool goldfish. I have been in the aquarium hobby for over 55 years and had been the president of an aquarium club for over 20 years. I am now in two different aquarium club and am on the conservation committee for the North East Council (for Aquarium Societies).

Hello,Umesh! No other fish should be kept with gold fish. The right combination is eight red gold fish and one black gold fish according to Feng Shui.If you are interested in Feng Shui you can keep these fishes in an aquarium so that you may not face the financial lose.So also you will not feel stressed.thanx.

You should have said that feng shui says that you can't keep other fish together. But goldfish can SURVIVE and THRIVE with other fish in the tank. Not everyone believe in Feng Shui so I think you should have worded that a little different. You make it sound like her or his goldfish will die if they are put with other fish. and that is just not true.

How big is your fish tank becuase you don't want to over crowd them. Goldfish should not be kept with plectos. The plectos have a taste for slim build-up and eyeballs of slower moving fish and may nip the goldfish. However you could keep them with guppies, mollies, pilates, catfish and algea eaters. You need to make sure you have an algea eater goldfish don't have stomachs so their food goes right through them and it causes alot of build up in the tank. It would also be a good idea to have some places for the fish to hide for say if one was chasing the other. There maybe a little fighting in the beginning but that should die down over time you may want to keep an eye on them at first.
