Hey this is a great discussion! what i believe to be newton's greatest achieveemnt is to unify what at that time we knew were isolated events in nature under a finite set of physical laws. Just like the others were saying, after newton, physical interaction had to be subjected to the three newtonian laws thereby making the universe predictable thereby allowing us to control nature.

Sir Isaac Newton is a great man because he made the whole world look into things differently. It's not so much at what theory he came up with (it is probably not flawless in today's science, scientists today had probably formed a better understanding in physics) but the way he made the world's thinking change. What changed you may ask?
Well, the greatest thing I believe that he showed to us a world that is scientifically in order. The world is not as crazy as it seemed before, something governs how things work and through scientific measures we can work it out to some extent and explain things better than before.

I don't know what inventions or theories he made( not much of a science person sorry) but what I do know is that he probably did become famous off of that, but on the other hand, there was probably a lot of disagreement on his gravity theory, because they would use that logic too.
