Is your hometown famous for anything?

My hometown, Bucharest - also known as 'Little Paris', is famous for its large boulevards and Belle Epoque buildings, but also for being the town where you can find the House of Parliament, the 2nd biggest building in the world (the first being Pentagon), and the biggest palace in the world. Bucharest is also famous for its very intensive night life. This city has a vibrant night life, including nightclubs, casinos, live rock and jazz music in clubs and pubs, especially on week-ends.
In this context, my question would be if your town is famous for something, anything?! Have there been any big events where you live, have you got any celebs near you? Are there any brilliant tourist attractions?

I grew up in a small town in Georgia. We have a state park that people come from all over the country to visit. It is also the home of one of the former World 9-ball pool (billiards) champions.

It is a really nice place actually. There are cabins that people can rent to stay in the park. There are also campsites if "roughing it" is more your thing. There is a beautiful lake where you can fish or take canoe trips up the stream that was damned up by an old-fashioned water-powered grits mill that was used in the earlier days to grind corn into grits and corn-meal. There are also some hiking trails, a public playground, a public meeting hall for family reunions and other gatherings, and a couple of fishing piers. It is a really nice place to spend a few days relaxing or enjoying nature. My wife and I actually got married in this park right by the lake, and we used the public meeting hall for our wedding reception...

Sounds like you have a lovely hometown.
My hometown is the birthplace of Lucielle Ball from I Love Lucy. That is our big news. Every year in the summer we have a Lucyfest and usually Lucys daughter comes into town for the celebration.

To be honest, it only sounds like. Actually, being the capital of the country is very crowded and the traffic here seems to dominate the landscape. Maybe because i'm addicted to another type of city, smaller, where life is less superficial and more intense. It seems that you live in a wonderful city, sunshine

Oh, Romania. That's lovely! I have ancestors from Romania, and really hoped to visit there when I was in Europe this summer. I did not, sadly. Someday.
As for my hometown -- I live in Dawson Creek, BC, Canada, which aside from the name that most North Americans would associate with a long running teenage drama television show (they are not, in any way, related) is also famous for being Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Highway), or the southernmost terminus of the famous Highway. It is also unofficially recognized as a part of the Pan-American Highway, stretching from Alaska to Argentina (a drive I would someday like to do).
Every summer, thousands and thousands of tourists from all over the world (but especially the Southern US) flock to have their picture taken on the 'Mile 0 post' in the centre of Dawson Creek.

The city of Griffin is where I live. I don't think there is anything famous about ti besides maybe this really old bridge.
The bridge was used in a scene on the Dukes of Hazard Movie, so I got to see Jessica Simpson in real life that was cool...
Also, Hank Aaron had opened up a car lot down here that failed...
