Hello my fellow mylotters I am back =) Now that the winter weather had hit I was wondering how bad do you think it should get before they call off school? Right now in Cleveland Ohio it's snowing like crazy and the temp with the wind chill is -3.

In my area that would be cold enough for at least a delay in the start of school and I agree. There are lots of kids, including very young ones, who have to walk to school and lots that have to walk a good distance even to the bus stop and sometimes they have a bit of a wait there. I KNOW all of us of a certain age have either heard or have told stories of walking miles to school with snow up to our hips but that was then and this is now and I don't want any child to go through that today!

I live in southern Indiana and it is in the minus numbers here also. We have only gotten a few flurries this year so far but the school is on a two hour delay for this morning so far.

What a debate this question can cause! When it comes to schools closing it shouldn't matter what the weather is but how dangerous it is for the kids. Safety should always be first. Some parents look at school as their day care while they are at work. When the schools close it doesn't mean that offices will close so parents look for those schools to be open. I say when it is so cold outside that being out in it for less than 5 minutes is dangerous Well it's time to close! The other side of that story should be if the kids are out of school the kids shouldn't have a free day to be out playing in that weather either. With all the computers in homes these days the schools should have a program set up that the families get some of the kids school work through programs to keep them from falling behind. Stay warm everyone! The worst is yet to come.

Yikes that is cold. It got into the mid 40's here in Southern Cal. Of course that is at night. The last couple of days has been in the 80's so school won't be called off any time soon down here. I'm thinking that anything below zero might be a little too cold to be in school. But I don't know about Cleveland . . . your kids are probably tougher than ours (as far as weather is concerned).

My daughter was suppose to have afternoon preschool today, and we got a phone call telling us that it had been cancelled. I was kinda hoping that school would have been cancelled, but usually those kinds of things happen in the morning.
