I've Just seen my granddaughter on TV

I went to a furniture store in my lunch hour to price the cost of coffee tables. Mine is nearly 40 years old and on its last legs.(forgive the awful pun) The televisions were all on and then I saw my granddaughter on an advertisement re Insurance - she was walking towards a big barking dog and then she gave it a big hug. She is just 8 years old and I love her so much. I have a very good relationship with her mother who left my son around 4 years ago. Her mother allows me access to her and trusts me to take her overseas (which I've done twice.) She is an excellent mother to my granddaughter and we have no problems at all. Anyway, I've digressed. I started to grin quite insanely and looked around for someone to tell. There was only a bored shop assistant who was obviously not too impressed - in fact she looked quite sceptical. Her mother did tell me that she had done this advertisement but I did not know that it had been releases. It is on our local channels only. so I've just finished phoning everyone I know on the Island and they have all promised to look out for the advertisement.LOL do you anyone in your family or friends that have appeared on tv in an advertisement?

Aww that's so cute! You must feel very proud. As a matter of fact I do know people in my family that have been on TV before. My uncle and his son (my cousin) were chosen to film a commercial in Taiwan (this was quite a few years ago, so I don't remember what exactly the commercial was about). The same cousin was also on this TV show in Taiwan where basically the hosts brought out three people who supposedly did extraordinary things, and the celebrity guests were supposed to guess who is real and who was fake. Back then, there were two fakes and one person was real (now it's one fake and two real). My cousin was on as one of the fakes. He was only 6 years old, and they told the celebrities that he could eat 6 hamburgers in one go! I watched the tape afterwards, it was quite funny. If anybody has heard of the Guess Guess show, that was the one he was on. And if any of you know who SHE are (a girl band in Taiwan), they were co-hosting that particular episode so my cousin got to meet them! I was a bit jealous, they're not my favourite singers but it's rare to meet celebrities.

That is great and congrats to you. A little superstar in the making. How cool is that to see here on the set while you were out shopping. I sing and yes, I have been on local television a couple of times. I also have had the opportunity to host my own television show for four years. It was communuty access, but it was fun.

How cool! My son has been on television before, but just for a few seconds. He was on the Channel 5 news in St. Louis a few years ago with my sister and one of her friends.

I lived in St. Louis for a few years. Sometimes I miss it and want to move back up there. Who knows, maybe I will someday.

Congratulations, Gran! I laughed thinking about the skeptical store clerk! My son was recently on a quiz show on our PBS station as an alternate. While he wasn't in the competition, they did show a still of him announcing his name. He has appeared in the background at other events. We have a local access channel that plays musical concerts and programs from our county schools so I have seen my children on that many times. My husband has been seen on this channel also at local government meetings. A major international news event was linked to our hometown in which my husband was the spokesperson for the local family (he's the newspaper editor). He gave statements with national and international media for them. A French camera crew followed him around one day at the office. They did a French news special on how these incidents were affecting small town America. They sent us a copy. It was really amusing hearing my husband dubbed in French. When I was younger, my older brother was interviewed for the local news program. It was a feature on him. He is blind and is a musician (organ and piano). It was really neat. I have a copy somewhere on VHS. My younger brother managed a credit counselling center in my hometown. He was used quite frequently on the local news as their credit expert in financial segments. I had an English teacher in HS who was a weekend actor in the local theater. He got a job for awhile as the "Ole Taco" restaurant spokesperson. He did a few other commercials that were shot in Chicago.

Oh, I forgot to mention that when we lived in another city, and my husband worked for another paper, a TV station in a larger city had a few "desks" in small towns and aired those on their news show. The "desk" for our town was shot in the newspaper offices. They filmed so that my husband's work area was directly behind the news reporter. My husband's back was usually to the camera as he was working at his desk. BUT ..... he strategically placed our son's baby photo in such a way that it was seen alongside the reporter. hahaha

I am so impressed - my friend comes from a family of celebrities.lol This is amazing. You are a remarkable family. You must keep all these treasures of interviews etc of your family in a safe place as it will be memories for your children when they are older. Hey now listen to me, baby girl, the word grandmother is unknown in our house., It is a tradition habded down in my family whereby the word grandmother or granny is never used. My grandkids call me cynthie. so you can forget the 'gran'bit. Yes, I am proud - she looks so beautiful. I am longing for the day when my son gets around to puttinga phot of them with me as my avi. Pigs may flu before that happens and no, I cannot do it. I just learnt to do smiley faces today and to cut and paste. Thank you for responding. Such talent in your family.

Wow! You must be very proud of your granddaughter. That really is a big achievement for such a little girl. I hope you can get to record it when it comes on and put a link up to show us all. I am so pleased for you and her of course. A little star. One of my daughters was on television on her thirteenth Birthday. She wrote a poem for the victims of September 11th and President Bush was visiting Belfast and she got to read it out to him and everyone else of course. She was in the News papers and on the Radio also. Her poem was publised in a childrens poetry book that I have a few copies off. It really makes you so proud when we see our Children doing well. I think this gives them confidence also and they also get experience that helps them grow.

HIldas, I would not know how to put a link on it. I'm still trying to get my son put up a photo of me with three of my grands as my avi. Her achievement by walking and hugging a dog is nothing compared to what your grand did. That is super amazing and she actually read it to President Clinton. That is a life time experience. I don't know if you are allowed to post the poem but it would make a wonderful read. Or you could pm me as I would love to read it. YOu do know that I am of Irish blood? Blessings

I will hunt out that book and newspaper articles (soon I hope) and try to get them scanned somewhere as I have no scanner. I looked online everywhere yesterday for the book, but I could not see it. It is through "The write stuff" but I will find it.

Awww that's so cute. I'm sure you're really delighted to see your lovely granddaughter on television. I don't have any relatives on tv but sometimes I see a friend or just someone I know and that gets me excited already! So I could just imagine that excitement times 10 is probably what you felt. :) By the way, just out of curiosity, did your granddaughter get paid?

Hi there cynthiann Wow how cool. I don't know anyone that has ever been in an advert, not that I can think of anyway. I must just say that I am so glad that you have such a good relationship with your ex-daughter-in-law and your grandduaghter. Sometimes what happens in relationship breakups is that the other family doesn't get to see the children. It has happened to my brother and we don't get to see his kids at. He was a great father to those kids, she has just made things so difficult for him and us to see them though there has been a time when he got to see them every weekend because she had a fella and wanted my brother to look after them. When that relationship split up she went back to making it difficult for him again! So I am so happy everything is good for you and your family!

I have to tell you that it was not easy at first as she left my son for someone else but that relaionship did not last long. My son went to the U.K. where he met his wife (she is from our Island). He later got married and had twins. However, because of Joelle they maintained contact and she even trusted me to take Joelle to the U.K. so that was very good of her. I assist her in anyway I can. The important thing is to never disrespect the child's mother or father in front of them. Joelle's Mom and my son actually get on well now and this is good for Joelle. Joelle also loves my son's wife dearly. I just pray that it continues this way. I;m sorry about your brother. It must be awful for him not to see his children. I never understand why parents cannot be mature and take it al out on the children. The are messing with the children's minds. Thank yo for responding dear friend

That's amazing; it's a wonderful thing for a child to get that kind of experience, and it could be the start of a well paid, exceptionally exciting career in the television for her if that's the path that she wishes to follow. Even if not, the experience at this age can look great on her CV when she is older, and when she is applying for schools or colleges. I have been on Songs of Praise, but that's about it, but my Father is a radio presenter and a couple of my cousins were on television when they were younger (my Dad organised it as he had been asked to help with a documentary programme)
