I am looking to meet others and get information from other pet rescue services.

My family and I started volunteering with a pet rescue service back in June of 08. My children actually got us involved by volunteering every Saturday with a group that set in our local Petsmart. My kids are 13 and 17 and I thought it was a great way for them to spend their saturdays over the summer. They would help the organization by setting up for the event, loving on the dogs and cats through out the day, helping to walk the dogs, giving them food and water and talking with the potential adopters about the pets. This is a non profit organization and with the many pets needing foster homes we now have become foster parents for dogs. I have been amazed at the number of pets that come and go from this organization. All the pets find homes eventually. None of the pets are put to sleep. Are there any other families on my lot providing this kind of service? Do you know of these types of organizations in your area providing these services? How much do you know about the pets who's owners no longer want them or have to get rid of them for legitimate reasons? What happens to the pets in your area that are found wondering the streets? I'd love to hear from any of you with your concerns, advice or information in helping save the lives of unwanted pets.
